WORKPLACE HARASSMEMT
a) Many people all over the world are being victimized or harassed on a daily basis either
being a male or female. Thus, keeping that in mind our group chose "victimization and
harassment" as a social justice issue which is faced by people all over the Pacific and
world. People get victimized almost anywhere and everywhere and by people who they
least expect it from such as friends or colleagues at school and workplaces. Harassment
can mean something as small as making jokes on someone or calling someone with
names. This kind of harassment may not sound really unpleasant but people who are
victims of such harassment go through a lot of stress and depression. So, it is important to
raise awareness on such an issue.

b) In the cartoon, the social issue of victimization and harassment is identified. The cartoon
shows how the issue is addressed. This is when Sophie voices her concern to the Human
Resources (HR) Manager. It depicts that such behavior by co-workers is not acceptable.
Like Sophie’s reporting matter, people must take action in the real world against issues
such as harassment especially in work places as it is where people work to support their
family. However, the actions of the HR manager must not be supported as it promotes
victimization. It shows the lack of compassion that the HR manager has for Sophie’s
situation due to her work position. The cartoon is an apt representation of harassment and
victimization that may occur in modern society concerning ethics.

c) The cartoon depicts the contradiction of the theory of deontology. The HR manager is not
doing her duty as she ignores Sophie’s concerns instead of taking any actions about it.
Sophie, a new employee is being victimized and harassed by the Performance Manager.
It contradicts with the principle of non-consequentialism as the HR is not following her
duties based on the perception that no action will be taken just because Jay, the
performance manager is a “star performer” when she should be following her duty
regardless of the consequence. Another ethical theory that portrays the message in the
cartoon is virtue ethics. It clearly demonstrates the performance manager’s character.
Despite being part of the senior management, he lacks integrity. He is not applying
standard of moral excellence into his work relations. He misuses’ his power and position
and pesters the new employee by touching her inappropriately and messaging her.
