Quiz 2
Date: June 21, 2021, Max Marks: 15
Max Time: 35 min (Including Submission Time)
Attempt all questions. Best of luck ©

1. Consider two continuous-time signals x(t) and y(t) with area under them equal to ax and ay . Find the
area of x(2t) ∗ y(t). [3]
“An input x[n] = cos πn 2n πn

2. Let S be an LTI system. Then, consider the statement 7 + cos 5 + cos 3
to S cannot lead to an output y[n] = cos 4πn

5 ”. Do you agree with this statement? Yes or no, with a
suitable technical explanation. [3]
−t −2t
3. An LTI system has the unit step response given by g(t)√ = e u(t) − e u(t). Determine the output of
this system y(t) given an input x(t) = δ(t − π) − cos( 3)u(t). [3]
4. Consider an LTI system. Assume that the output signal is g(t) for input x(t) = e−3t u(t − 1). What will
be the output for the input signal −3x(t) + δ(t − 1). [3]

5. Let S be an LTI system. Suppose an input x[n] to S leads to an output y[n] where

x[n] = δ[n] − δ[n − 2] (1)

y[n] = δ[n] + δ[n − 1] (2)

Observe that Eq. (2)-(1) gives us y[n] = x[n] + δ[n − 1] + δ[n − 2]. Then, determine the impulse response
h[n] if possible. [3]
