4.2 Computer system

4.2.1 General

Notice!
Note:
The monitor illustrations in this chapter are only examples. The numerical values in the
individual icons and tables do not necessarily match exactly to the crane.

The load moment limiter is a computer system for controlling and monitoring mobile
cranes. In addition to control the boom telescoping via computer programs, it is also
of self-diagnosis function.

The load moment limiter calculates data from the pressure gauge, length sensors,
angle sensors and other monitoring devices to judge whether the crane is in safe
working conditions. And display the basic parameters, such as boom length, boom
angle, working radius, rated lifting capacity etc., on the LCD,.

If the actual load is greater than 90% of the rated one, the warning light lights up
and buzzer sends out slow acoustic warning.

If the actual load is greater than 100% of the rated one, the warning light lights up
and buzzer sends out fast acoustic warning and all dangerous crane movements
are switched off.

The crane can only carry out safe operations until the dangerous conditions are
released.

The load moment limiter can prevent crane from toppling or being destruction, thus
ensures crane’s safe operation.

If the rated lifting load displayed by load moment limiter is different to the load chart,
reference to the load chart.

The load moment limiter includes the following icons:

Auxiliary icon:
Wind speed on boom head, engine working hours, the current time and date;

Instrument icon:
Fuel gauge, water thermometer, engine oil pressure gauge, tachometer and main
pump pressure gauge;

1) Control system test

Please refer to Operating Manual for Load Moment Limiter.

2) Sensor check
Observe the real-time output value of sensor (See Fig.19).

3) PLC status checking

PLC is used to test the actual input and output values of PLC in all crane
movements.

The white square frame displays analog quantities, and the grey square frame
displays Boolean quantities.

In the following flow charts, the grey square frame will be highlighted in
red and the white square frame will display the corresponding data if the
date flows through them (See Fig.20 & Fig.21).

From the flow charts, the operator can check actual parameters, do diagnosis
and judge whether the operation is mis-operated.

For example, when the remote control box is used, the "Counterweight switch"
must be activated. If the "Counterweight switch" is inactivated, the operation of
remote control box will be invalid and its square frame color (in Fig. 20) will not
be highlighted in red.

4.3 Starting up the crane

4.3.1 Checks before starting up
Ensure that the following prerequisites are met before staring up:
1. Checking the engine oil level
● The machine has been leveled;
● Pull out the dipstick and clean it;
● Reinsert it into oil and pull out again;
● Check whether the oil level is between MIN and MAX markings.

Warning:
If the engine oil level has fallen below MIN marking, refill oil until the oil level
reaches between MIN. and MAX. Failure to refill oil will result in serious damage to
engine due to insufficient lubrication.

2. Checking the hydraulic oil level

The hydraulic oil level must be between MIN and MAX.

3. Checking the fuel level

The fuel level is displayed on the lower part of load moment limiter screen. 1
represents fuel reserve 100% and 0 represents fuel reserve 0%.

Caution:
Deaerate the fuel system before adding fuel.
If the fuel tank has been run dry, always deaerate the whole fuel system.
Do not run the fuel tank dry!

4. Checking the coolant level

Fill coolant expansion tank up to overflow on filler neck. If the coolant level is too
low, the warning lamp on instrument panel in operator’s cab will light up.

The coolant used in engine is antifreeze and antirust fluid. Add different grade of
antifreeze fluid according to different freezing point depending on variable
temperature (Generally, the antifreeze fluid grade is -5℃ in the condition of new
product leaving the factory. In winter, the antifreeze fluid grade is -25℃ to -35℃).
Never use water to substitute antifreeze and antirust fluid.

Danger:
Engine must be cold to lower than 50℃ when performing coolant level check.
Danger of injury due to scalding of the skin.

5. Checking central lubricating system

The grease container must be kept filled with grease.

6. Checking general condition of crane

4-38
1690-000-04Y

1) Check the crane is properly supported on a level load-bearing surface, and has
been set up horizontally.

2) Check that the toothed ring of the slewing ring connection is clean and
greased;

3) The front and rear part of oil cooler and A/C radiator has been cleaned and free
of blockage.

4) Ensure that there are no people or objects in the crane danger zone.

5) Make sure that the cable / rope drums and the limit switches are free of snow
and ice.

6) Make sure that there are no loose parts on the superstructure or the telescopic
boom.

Danger:
Ensure that there are no loose parts on boom system prior to derricking the boom
up; otherwise, falling parts will cause fatal injury.

4.3.2 Starting the engine

1. Switch on battery master switch
If the superstructure battery master switch is switched on, the relay
switch of the master power near the battery on slewing table will also
be on and its control light lights up.
If the control light does not light up, check the connection of
superstructure master power source.

2. Switching on the engine

Two positions, in clockwise direction

1st position: the whole electrical system is electrified.
2nd position: the engine is started.

Caution:
1) After engine is started, release the key to let it return to the 1st position
automatically. This key has the function to prevent the engine being started
repeatedly (i.e., if the engine has started, the next engine starting will be invalid
if do not return the key to original position).

4-39
1690-000-04Y

2) Never run the motor for 15 seconds continuously. The motor can be operated
two times per attempt with a pause in between of several minutes each time to
avoid battery discharging electricity and starter motor being damaged. If the
engine does not start after 3 attempts, have the engine defects rectified.

4.3.3 Computer system after engine start

The monitoring main screen will appear on the monitor after the computer system
switches on and passes its self-test. After the engine starts, the relevant data, such
as engine working hours, date, oil reserve, oil pressure, coolant temperature and
RPM etc., can be monitored via the load moment limiter screen. Check the relevant
data. Once an error is detected, turn off the engine and determine the cause.

OM (operating mode) set can be performed on the screen of monitoring main

screen. For detailed information refers to Chapter 4.2.2.

4.4 Safety devices

4.4.1 General
Every time the crane is operated, the crane operator is required to satisfy himself
about the functionality of the safety systems.

Danger:
Danger of accident from defective warning and safety systems!
Operating the crane with defective warning and safety systems can lead to
life-threatening accidents!

4.4.2 Support control unit

To ensure the working safety of the crane, the crane must be properly supported on
a level load-bearing surface, and be set up horizontally.

The two support control units (switch box) with buttons are attached to both sides of
the vehicle from which the operator can observe the level conditions of the entire
vehicle.

Caution:
Level the entire vehicle and make sure its deviation is less than 0.6° otherwise
fatal accidents may be increased.

4-40
1690-000-04Y

If 0.2° ≤ deviation ≤0.4°, the

LED lights up.

If deviation ≤0.2°, the

LED lights up.

4.4.3 Load moment limiter

The load moment limiter is a device for controlling and monitoring the crane's
movements. If the actual load exceeds 90% of the rated one, the warning lamp will
light up and buzzer will sound intermittently. If the actual load reaches or exceeds the
rated lifting capacity, the overload control light will light up and buzzer will sound
continuously. At this time, the load moment limiter will send out a cut-off signal. All
movements towards dangerous directions are cut off via the crane control
mechanism. In this case, the crane can only works towards safe directions till the
dangerous state is deactivated.

4-41
1690-000-04Y

4.4.4 Hoist / lowering limit switch

1. Lowering limit switch
In order to prevent the wire rope from being wound reversely after being unwound
completely, the lowering limit switches are mounted on main and auxiliary
winches to switch off when only 3 hoist rope windings are left on winches. Under
this situation, acoustic sound will be heard and only the upward movement of the
hook is permitted. During commissioning and maintenance, press the bypass
switch on the control panel to lower the hook.

Lowering limit

2. Hoisting limit switch

If the hook block contacts the hoisting limit switch weight during its upward
movement, the hoisting limit switch is triggered and buzzer sounds. The crane
movements “Spool up winches”, “Derrick telescopic boom down” and “Telescope
out” are switched off. At this time, only the crane movements “Spool down
winches”, “Derrick telescopic boom up” and “Telescope in” can be switched on.
This shut-off can be bypassed when the hoisting limit switch is released.

Warning:
Never use bypass switch in normal operation!

4.4.5 Hydraulic safety valves

1. Relief valve in hydraulic system
The relief valve in hydraulic system can prevent the pressure in the circuit from
raising too high, thus avoid hydraulic oil pump and hydraulic motor from being
damaged and hydraulic system from being overloaded.

2. Outrigger locking device

If the high pressure oil pipe which is connected to vertical cylinder is damaged,
the bidirectional hydraulic lock in the outrigger hydraulic circuit can block the
pressure oil in the two chambers of outrigger cylinder to prevent the outrigger
from retracting or extending, and thus ensure the safe operation of the crane.

3. Locking device for crane movement “Derrick telescopic boom up”

If the high pressure oil pipe in the hydraulic circuit of boom derricking cylinder is
damaged, the balance valve in the hydraulic circuit can lock the hydraulic oil in the
lower chamber of derricking cylinder immediately to prevent the boom upward
movement from being down, and thus ensure the safe operation of the crane.

4. Locking device for crane movement “Telescope boom out”

If the high pressure oil pipe in the hydraulic circuit of boom telescopic cylinder is
damaged, the balance valve in the hydraulic circuit can lock the hydraulic oil in
the upper chamber of telescopic cylinder immediately to prevent the telescoping
boom sections from retracting naturally, and thus ensure the safe operation of the
crane.

4.4.6 Bypass operation

If the hook block contacts the hoisting limit switch weight or lowering limit switch
during its upward movement or downward movement, the hoisting limit switch and
lowering limit switch is triggered. The dangerous movements will be switched off. If
the maximum load torque is exceeded, the control system will switch off all crane
movements to increase load torque. The buzzer begins to sound. If necessary,
press the “bypass switch” in operator’s cab to release the switching off. For details,
please refer to the relevant information to “bypass switch” in Chapter 4.1.5.

Danger:
If there is a need to lifting or lowering the hook a little under special condition, the
operator can operate the “bypass switch” on the instrument panel to bypass the
crane’s switch-off movements. Such operation should be performed with utmost
caution to avoid accident. And all consequences resulted from such operation
should be taken by the operator!

Never telescope telescopic boom with load. In that situation, the crane operator
bears full responsibility.

4.4.7 Wind warning system

The wind gauge is fitted on the boom head of the crane to detect the wind speed.
The wind speed appears in the screen of load moment limiter. If the actual wind
speed exceeds the maximum value, stop the crane operation and lower the boom.

Danger:
Risk of accident from crane toppling if operating in the condition of exceeding the
permitted wind speed!

4.4.8 Emergency off switch

The emergency off switch is fitted on the instrument panel in operator’s cab. If it is
operated, the electrical crane control is switched off. Every movement carried out
can be immediately stopped.

After the emergency off switch has been operated, the system can be released by
turning the switch (See the right Fig.).

Warning:
Only use the emergency off switch in the event of a clear
emergency! Use of the emergency off switch for normal condition
is not permitted!

4.5 Crane operation

4.5.1 Preparations before crane operation
Ensure that following checks are operated before operation:
1) Assess the load condition prior to lifting it;

2) Check the crane position, ground condition and surface bearing condition;

3) Check wire ropes (including wire rope’s end, winding drum and pulleys);

4) Check the liquid level and power source of the crane;

Note:
a. Oil level is more than 1/4 of the tank oil capacity (Check the fuel gauge).
b. The hydraulic oil level in hydraulic oil tank is between the maximum oil level and
minimum oil level in transport condition.

5) The loading and working area should be visible and without no obstacles within
it. Check the communication system of operator and supervisor to ensure that
nothing will hinder the operation;

6) Check safety device for functioning work;

7) Remain the communication between the operator and the rigger.

Warning:
In order to protect the crane and reduce the danger of accidents always operate
the control lever slowly and sensitively.

Danger:
Ensure that there are no obstacles in the crane working area and no persons in
danger zone. Give a short warning signal (horn) before starting a crane movement.

4-45

The boom upward angle varies from -0.5° to 83°. Operate the right control lever to
derrick the telescopic boom up / down.

Before derricking, switch the following switch at left position “Derricking”.

Speed of crane movement “Derricking” has 2 stages, normal speed and low speed,
which is activated via the slow gear switch (See the following Fig.).

Normal speed:
The more the control lever is pulled towards left or right, the faster the speed will be.

Low speed:
Switch right switch at right position “Slow gear”.
If the boom length < 40 m, the speed of “Derricking” is slow.
If the boom length ≥ 40 m, the speed of “Derricking” is very slow.

Caution:
a. Operation should be carried out stably. Jerkily operation will bring great impact to
the crane during load lifting.
b. Never increasing the working radius with load. Operator should strictly restrict
the maximum working radius according to lifting capacity table.
c. Lower the hook fully before derricking up the boom.
d. For the sake of safety, never derricking down the boom at high speed.

4.5.3 Boom telescoping

The movements “Telescope boom in / out” are controlled by the right control lever
automatically. Every telescopic section can telescope in 3 lengths: 45% of its total,
90% of its total and 100% of its total. The telescopic cylinder does not bear any load.

Before telescoping, switch the right switch at right

Caution:
a. When automatic telescoping mode is performed, the boom angle should exceed
70°;

b. The hook will also be lifted or lowered according to the crane's movements
“Telescope boom in or out”. Therefore, operate control lever to adjust the height
of hook during telescoping;

c. Carry out telescoping movements with maximum care and minimum speed. Do
not telescope boom with load;

d. Do not telescope the boom out when the boom is retracted. Initial telescope
movement after 2 seconds;

e. It is forbidden to drag the load diagonally;

Before carry out telescoping movement, check whether the block at the head of
telescopic boom is in contact with its adjacent telescopic boom tail completely. If
not, add washers to make them contact completely and ensure that the boom pin
and cylinder pin bear no force during the movement “Fully telescope boom in”.

Pull the right control lever and press rapid speed button for main winch.
Speed “Spool main winch up” and “Reel main winch off” is increased.

The balance valve fitted in hoisting mechanism can not only ensure load lifted /
lowered steadily, but also stop load in any position.

If the boom works, wire rope may not be long enough with the boom telescoping out
and derricking up. Such problem can be solved by changing the reeving numbers of
wire rope. Before changing the reeving numbers, fit a hoisting limit switch weight.
As to the standard reeving numbers for various boom lengths, please refer to rated
lifting capacity table.

4-50
1690-000-04Y

Caution:
a. Choose proper reevings in accordance with boom lengths;

b. Under any conditions, there must be at least three windings of wire rope left on
the winding drum;

c. When a load is lifted away from the ground, it should first be suspended in the
air for a moment. Do not lift the load until the operator confirms that there is no
safety hazard. Do not derrick and telescope the boom if the load does not leave
away from the ground;

d. Do not change the control lever between “Spool up“ and “Reel off” jerkily. The
operator should return the control lever to neutral position and ensure the
winding drum has stopped before changing between “Spool up“ and “Reel off”.
Otherwise, the machine will be damaged;

e. The lifting equipment must be of enough strength;

f. The lifting capacity includes the mass of the hook and all lifting equipment.

4.5.5 Slewing
The slewing mechanism consists of hydraulic motor, planet-gear reducer, slewing
brake valve, slewing brake, driving gear, slewing ring and so on.

1. Slewing speed
The speed of the crane movement “Slewing”, varying between 0 and 1.5 r/min, is
controlled by the deflection of left control lever. The slewing speed has 2 stage,
normal speed and low speed, which can be activated by switching on the slow
gear switch. The low speed is of good jogging performance.

2. Slewing operation
Slewing movements can be activated by the deflection of the left control lever
fitted in the operator’s cab.

movement. Insert and secure the pin after finishing this operation;

b. Ensure that there are no obstacles in the crane slewing area and no person is in
the danger zone. Give a short warning signal (horn) before starting a crane
movement;

c. When slewing with a load, initiate the slewing movement very carefully, and
apply the brakes. It is prohibited to stop slewing movement or change slewing
direction jerkily;

d. Longer boom length - slower slewing speed;

e. Heavier load - slower slewing speed;

f. In order to ensure safe operation of new crane, the user must check bolts in
slewing ring to tightening torque of 1850 N.m after 100 operating hours. Then
check and tighten them after 300 operating hours. After that, do the checks every
500 hours.

g. The counterweight switch cannot be switched at right position

before slewing. Otherwise, the slewing control lever cannot
control the slewing movement. The slewing movement is
controlled by slewing switch on counterweight remote
control box.

In manual mode, deflect the right control lever between any two adjacent arrows
with an angle of 45° to make main winch and telescoping mechanism initiate
relevent movements (See above fig.) simutanously.

The more the control lever is pull towrads an arrow, the faster the speed of the
corresponding movement will be, and the slower the speed of another movement.

Press “slow gear switch” to make all movements slower.

Press “main winch high-speed button” without “slow gear switch" being switched off
to speed up main winch.

If automatic mode is set, the movement “Telescope boom in / out” and “slow gear

4.5.8 Central lubricating system

The crane superstructure is equipped with an advanced 24V central lubricating
system. All the lubricating points are automatically supplied with the correct grease
quantity via progressive distribution valve. After power switch is switched on, the
pumps begin to supply grease to greasing points according to specified lubrication
interval.

A lubrication interval consists of pumps running interval and their running time.
Once the interval achieves to set value, the pumps will not stop running until they
finish their work. The greasing procedure is repeated.

In addition, the central lubricating switch is fitted on the electrical

control panel in operator’s cab. Once the switch is pressed, the
central lubricating system begins to add grease to lubricating points
automatically.

For detailed lubricating points, refer to following illustration:
