Last Sunday my family visited my parents friends, Mr. And Mrs. Amir, in Padang because
they have a new baby. We went there by car early morning because we planned to stop at
Anai Valley Waterfall for a moment.
We passed Bukittinggi-Padang road which is very awesome. We enjoyed beautiful scenery
along the road. We was so amazed when we saw the wonderful Anai Valley Waterfall. It is
located beside the road. My father parked the car in the parking area and then we enjoyed
the waterfall. The water is clear and fresh. Then, we ate delicious food in the restaurant
nearby.
After that, we continued our trip Padang. We arrived at Mr. And Mrs. Amir’s house around
11 a.m. They welcomed us warmly. We visited the baby and then we had a chit-chat. We left
their house at 2 p.m. We passed the same road and still enjoyed it. We arrived home at 5
p.m.
Last Friday, a friend of mine asked me to accompany him to buy a new shirt at a department
store. We left home at 03.00 p.m. by motorcycle. As soon as we arrived there, we went to
the clothes section. I let him choose one. An hour later, I got bored watching him confused
in choosing a shirt. So I left him and went to the cassette counter. Thirty minutes later, I
went back to the clothes section but I couldn't find him there. My cell phone was broken so I
couldn't call him. I went to the parking area. I saw his motorcycle was there but I couldn't
find him. I waited for him for a few moments then finally I gave upand decided to go home.
When I arrived home, my mother told me that my friend called. She said that he was in the
department store looking for me. My mother asked me to come back to the department
store. Reluctantly, I walked to the department store and you know what? When I arrived
there his motorcycle was not in the parking area. He just went home. I was very tired. There
was no other choice, I had to walk home again. When I arrived home, I was so tired. I was
very angry but when I saw my friend's broad smile greet me in front of the door, I just could
not help laughing.
We believe the Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. At percent, we are forced to look to other
bodies in the solar system for hints as to what the early history of the Earth was like. Studies
of our moon, Mercury, Mars, and the large satellites of Jupiter and Saturn have provided
ample evidence that all these large celestial bodies had formed. This same bombardment
must have affected Earth as well. The lunar record indicates that the rate of impacts
decreased to its present low level about 4 billion years ago. On Earth, subsequent erosion
and crustal motions have obliterated the craters that must have formed during this epoch.
Scientists estimate the Earth’s age by measuring the ratios of various radioactive elements
in rocks. The oldest Earth’s rocks tested thus far are about 3 1/3 billion years old. But no one
knows whether these are oldest rocks on Earth. Tests on rocks from the moon and on
meteorites show that these are about 4.6 billion years old. Scientists believe that this is the
true age of the solar system and probably the true age of the Earth.
15. According to this passage, how do scientists estimate the age of the Earth?
A. By measuring the ratios of radioactive elements in rocks.
B. By examining fossils
C. By studying sunspots
D. By examining volcanic activity
17. Which of the following processes led to the obliteration of the craters formed by the
bombardment of the Earth by the celestial bodies?
A. Volcanic activity
B. Solar radiation
C. Gravity activity
D. Crustal motions
18. According to the passage, why are scientists forced to look at other bodies in the solar
system to determine the early history of the Earth?

maintaned their simple, nut natural lifestyle. There are several theories and legends as to

Sultan of Pagaruyung who in turn sent soldiers to Jambi. On their way in the dense jungles,
never came back out, but instead settled in the Jambi jungles and adopted the natural
