wide range of highly varied families of products of synthetic origin, and have numerous uses
including treatment of drinking water, Raw water clarification, silica removal, turbidity
reduction/TSS reduction, emulsified oil removal, colour removal from textile effluents, BOD/COD
reduction, Dewatering other applications. Coagulants and flocculants are used mainly for
facilitating the separation of materials in suspension in aqueous media.

A laboratory trail was conducted at Punjab chemicals & crop protection Limited for TSS & turbidity
reduction at inlet effluent.

 Old MEE capacity : 100 KLPD(3 Stage)

Application/Requirement

 TSS Reduction / Turbidity Reduction at Tube settler

Laboratory Trail Details: JAR-test

Experimental conditions:

 Equipment used : Beaker, Glass rod, Turbidity meter, colour meter, PH meter,
 Sample is taken in multiple beaker and jar test is performed.
 Lime is added to maintain the PH.
 Coagulant solution is added and fast mixing done for 1 minutes.
 Flocculent is added and slow mixing is done for 10-15 minutes.
 Above procedure is repeated and suitable product and dose optimization is done.
 The concentration of coagulant is 1% & for flocculent is 0.1%.

Results and Discussion

Based on detailed laboratory study, IEI recommends following points.

It was noted during the discussion that sometimes PH of effluent is very low & sometimes it
be very high. When PH is high PCCPL uses H2SO4 (Sulfuric acid) & when PH is low PCCFL
uses caustic lye.
IEI recommend uses of Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) & Caustic lye to maintain the PH.
In current treatment PCCPL using ALUM+LIME+POLYELCTROLYTE, Alum & lime makes
complex compound like aluminum chloride which further creates problem in evaporation at
MEE or MVR cum evaporation.
We recommend INDOFLOC 100L at a dose of 130-150 PPM & INDFLOC-443HM (Poly-
electrolyte) at a dose of 3 PPM.
With IEI Treatment there will be 50-60% TSS reduction & 80-85% Turbidity reduction.
With IEI treatment there will be a minimal consumption of lime 10-20 PPM that’s also
depend upon effluent property, even sometimes there will be no lime requirement.
There will be less sludge generation with IEI treatment.
