VERB

Every sentence in English needs a verb.

1. Regular and irregular verbs


Verbs change form when they are used to talk about past time.
a. Regular verbs

verb + ed

Examples: use – used (past simple) – used (past participle)

b. Irregular verbs

the verbs change form/stay the same

Examples: eat – ate (past simple) – eaten (past participle)


run – run (past simple) – run (past simple)

2. Gerund
Verb + ing = Noun
a. gerund as subject
Example: Flying makes me nervous.

b. gerund as object
Example: Luke likes playing video games.
