Consider the following as self-assessment questions for reflection:

• How can feelings help in moral decision making?

The feelings help to make the right or wrong decision. Because it is in
our feelings. And also Emotion is the part of the human brain that
actually makes the decisions.
Making decisions using feelings is a big help because once you make
the decision, it cannot be taken back, so your decisions must be right
because you will have it for life.

• How can feelings be harmful in making moral decisions?

Feelings can be harmful in making decisions. The reason we make
decisions quickly is that we sometimes don't think about what the
outcome of your decision will be. Just like when you are angry, you
do something wrong and you make a decision that is not right
because you are angry, because your feelings were hurt and that is
why you made wrong decisions.

• Based on what you have learned about the role of feelings in

decision-making, what is the
best approach in moral decision making?

1. WHAT HAPPENED TO TOMMY AND HIS GIRLFRIEND, BECKY?

The line of the lyrics that tommy saw becky crying the torn dress , the shattered look means
Becky was raped by the The Gatlins boys. So Tommy's beloved Becky was raped, What i
understand this song Tommy wants to have justice for his Girlfriend but he remembers what
his father said as the last word for him.

2. Describe your own feelings after listening to the song?

Student A’s Response: Student B’s Response:

It's just sad about this song because of what
happened to Becky who was raped by the
Gatlin boys. I was angry with the gatlin boys
because of what they did. I felt a mix
emotions in this song, especially about
Tommy who still holds on to what his FATHER
said but disobeyed it for his beloved.
After listening to the cowards of the county, I
feel angry to the Gatlin boys what they did to
Becky. It's just sad that Tommy's beloved was
raped. But as he saw Becky he remembered
what his father said but he still did it to take
revenge for his beloved but he still can't
forget the last word his father said.

3. Describe the feelings (and the role feelings) involved in the song. Compare your responses
with your partner regarding the role of feelings in the decision made by Tommy in the
song.
Student A’s Response: Student B’s Response:

The feelings that were involved in this song are love
and anger. These emotions made it difficult for
Tommy between taking revenge on the Gatlin boys
or holding on to what his father said. At the end,
because he loved Becky so much, he took revenge.
Mix emotion is involved in this song. Which made it
difficult for Tommy to choose between fighting with
the Gatlin boys or fulfilling what his father said.

COMPARISON:

Comparison between my answer and my Group-mate which is the Student b's Response is the Mix emotion
and Tommy's difficulty to choose between taking revenge on the Gatlin boys or standing up for what his
father said . But he made the Gatlin boys fight for his beloved Becky.
Self-Assessment:

Consider the following self-assessment questions after learning about Moral Courage:

• Recall a most recent personal moral dilemma that you experienced.

My personal moral dilemma experience is that I ran away from my father because of we are
separated family, which I should not have done, but I had to because I am a woman I also
need the care of a mother . I said it's a moral dilemma because it's hard to choose between
mom and dad because I love them both. I said that I was wrong to run away from my father
because I didn't say anything before I leave and I know that hurt his feelings that I left my
father.

• How did I decide? (or How did you come up with a decision?)
I made a careful decision whether to do that because I was still young. But I'm also having a
hard time because I'm the only daughter in our family, I also need my mother to guide me
because I'm a woman, she knows what I want better, although my father provides all my
needs, but it's still different who has a mother to take care of a girl child . That's why I
decided to leave our house and I didn't say goodbye because I knew if I hurt my father's
feelings and maybe he won't let me go, that's why I did this thing.

• What did I actually do?

I should have talked to my father about my situation, and he and my mother talked about it.
To make everything clearer, and I hope my dad's feelings haven't been hurt because I should
have said anything properly and I should have opened up to him so that my dad would know
what he was going to do with me, not that he didn't know anything and I just left suddenly.

• Was your decision an action aligned with your moral principles?

Yea because when I was here with my mom my studies improved, I was able to focus on
studying unlike when I was with my father I didn't know what I was going to do so I couldn't
focus on my studies I became lazy in tasks. That’s why I can say that I made the right
decision in my life. Now my dad and I are okay and I can still see him even though he is far
away from me and at the same time I can do what I want.
