FROG DISSECTION VIRTUAL ACTIVITY

1. In this activity, you will be watching a video and learn how to dissect a frog.
2. Go to this link and watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uujwfyk05kw
3. In the space given below, give the steps of the frog dissection based on the video.
For the first procedure lay the frog in the tray and spread out its limbs. Use a pin to secure them to the
tray. We can now observe the external anatomy of the frog. We can now dissect the frog to observe
internal anatomy. Upon opening the frog use the incision guide and cut along the midline of the body to
the fourth limbs then make a transverse hat just above the legs and just below the arms. Now use
forceps to life the skin between the hind legs and make a small incision with the scissor and continue to
cut along the midline of the body to the four limbs. Make a transverse cut just below the arms, now lets
also make a transverse cut just above the legs. After making incisions we need to pull up the skin to
loosen some of the tissue that connects the skin to the muscles, so you’re going to use a scalpel, then
repeat the procedure on the other side, then pull the resulting flaps back and pin them to the dissecting
tray. Now lets repeat the incisions as before but this time cutting through the muscle layer to the part just
below the arms. When we reach the area just below the arms turn the scissors and make horizontal cuts
through the hardest part. Repeat the horizontal cuts just above the arms and then remove the bunny
strips entirely. We can see now the Internal organs

5. Why are frogs commonly dissected in biology classes?

Frogs are often used in dissection when demonstrating the organ systems of a complex
organism. The presence and position of the organs found in a frog are similar enough to a
person to be able to provide insights into the internal workings of the human .
