Plastic Bottles: PILED ‘EM UP!
I. INTRODUCTION
One of the key tenets of sustainability is knowing where the items people buy
come from and what to do after using them. Unfortunately, carrying out effective
environmental education gets more challenging as the world around becomes more
linked and complex.
The plastic bottle is a fantastic example of the complexity of these production
processes, and it is extremely difficult to maintain an ethical relationship with this
specific product. Plastic bottles are quite common; they are found in supermarkets,
grocery stores, houses, offices, streets, and oceans. They have a complicated life cycle,
and both their production and ultimate disposal have a large negative influence on the
environment. But, both companies and customers can take action to reduce the issues
brought on by plastic bottles. While minimizing our reliance on these single-use
products is by far the most significant step we can take, effectively recycling our bottles
and creating bottles from recycled materials are also excellent strategies to do this.
According to the information gathered from the members of Sangguniang Bayan
of Baras Rizal, Brgy. Evangelista was in trouble with many piled up plastic bottles
blocked on the side of the road and could not be thrown so the proponents thought of
solving the environmental issue and thus also help the residents by recycling the plastic
bottles that the volunteers will gather.
PROJECT DURATION
For the first day of the 1st week of April, the proponents are to gather and invite
some residents who want to volunteer and participate for the upcoming project. After the
one day assembling volunteers, The project will start the next day and proceed to the
activity of collecting plastic bottles for the remaining days of april. Continuously, in the
month of May, the proponents and the volunteers are ready to recycle the collected
plastic bottles for over one month. The estimated duration of the recycling project would
last up to 3-4 weeks before contributing to gyms and schools and other public place
events within the community.
PROJECT AIM
The Piled ‘Em Up Project focuses on these key areas;
● Reduction of plastic bottled within the community
● To establish and sustain an efficient community
● To raise locals' awareness of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle)
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The barangay Evangelista residents aimed to:
● Gain awareness of environmental issues
● Learn about the many types of recyclables and their advantages
● Enhance management of community resources
II. METHODOLOGY
Materials
The volunteers are to gather these items:
● Plastic bottles of water
● Plastic bottles of soft drinks (coke, sprite, royal etc.)
METHODS
In addition to the actual collection Activity, a communication program of selective
collection and community mobilization is carried out online a week before the project
posters, and the program's proper schedule and activities are posted and promoted on
any social media pages or personal accounts of the researcher or any volunteer from
barangay Evangelista Baras, Rizal so that every resident is aware of how and why they
should participate in the said program.
The residents would receive a proper orientation throughout the one-week
collecting campaign so they would willingly donate the recyclable materials. Also, it
might compel our small-town residents to participate in the aforementioned event.
III. BUDGET
For this project, no funding is required. Everyone on the staff is only a volunteer;
none of them are compensated. Social media pages and accounts are used for the
posting and advertising, both of which are free. There is no need for money in the actual
program—just manpower is required.
