Title: Dr. Jose Rizal, A Portrayal of a Great Hero’s Life

My country, a beloved land full of hopes and dreams—abused and oppressed by the
same old Spaniards ruling the Philippines for years. And I, with one great hope of
wanting a change, began my mission. I am Jose Proctacio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo
Realonda, also known as Dr. Jose Rizal. At a young age, I showed great potential. I
was thriving at school, was on top of my class, but the system of racial discrimination
was too terrible to bear. I took a leap and decided to fly to Europe with hopes of
preparing to help my Filipino people. I graduated, made a name for myself, and did a lot
of discovery. During the darkest winter in Berlin, I was able to finish Noli Me Tangere. A
book uncovering the characteristics of the people in my country, a book that stirred my
peoples interest for reforms and changes. And it indeed caused an uproar against the
friars. I wrote a lot, I expressed my thoughts through pen and paper to let a lot of
people understand about the situation—and I succeeded. The Philippines were divided,
but knowing that many are willing to fight against the chains of the Spaniards gave me
hope. I was able to finish the sequel book, El Filibusterismo. Which added into my
works that awakened their interest. I believe my country deserves to be free, and the
people should not suffer from the hands of those who colonized our land. The battle
was not easy, I was seized and held captive—and in the hands of the Spaniards I was
judged. By December 30, at 7 in the morning, I was shot. My body fell onto the ground
of my motherland, but what I left was more than what I could wish for. I was executed,
but through my patriotism and the writings I made, I paved the way for my people to
awaken their Nationalism—which soon helped my people strike a revolution and
succeeded with it. I proved that with words, anything is possible. I am Dr. Jose Rizal,
and I am the Philippine’s National Hero.
