The field of urban education, those who teach in urban schools must know the four
factors that influence each student's success. These factors are understanding students and family
homelessness, understanding geography and social contexts, understanding policy and school

1. What do preservice and inservice teachers need to know in order to prepare to connect
2. What classes in college can prepare preservice teachers to take in order to teach students
in urban schools?
Research Plan
I plan to use the research articles that I have found to address an issue that most teachers
seem to face in urban schools, which is that most preservice and inservice teachers may not be
fully prepared to teach our students in urban schools. I plan to dive deeper into why some of our
students just don’t succeed in schools. With my research, I also plan to shed light on the
underlying systemic issues that may be identified when it comes to what urban school teachers
My plan does seem to be feasible and logical and the proof is in our urban city
classrooms. In order for a student to succeed, they need to trust their learning environment. How
are our students able to learn in a classroom from someone who they feel doesn’t connect with
them? How can any student, who may be struggling at home or worried about their families, be
well enough to learn? We need to bring these issues to the forefront of our classrooms so that we

can better serve our all students. With my research, I’d like to provide more understanding and
ways to help support teachers and students in our urban city schools.
