 Introduction
Ecoprint is a type of batik whose manufacturing method utilizes natural dyes from tannins or
leaf, root or stem dyes which are placed on a piece of cloth, then the cloth is repaired.

Ecoprint requires practice and analysis, not just theory. By doing practice and analysis, we
will further hone our knowledge and skills, so that we can find the right method and become
the hallmark of the product we have.

 Scouring
Scouring, namely the stage of washing cloth with the aim of cleaning the cloth from dirt,
particles or other chemicals so that natural dyes can absorb the fabric fibers and more evenly.

 Method :
● Prepare 8 liters of boiling water
● Enter 2 tablespoons of Ash soda
● Enter 2 tablespoons of alum
● Mix well
● Soak cloth/shirt (8 liters of water is used for 5 meters of cloth/6-10 shirts)
● Cover the marinade and wait for it to cool, it is better if it is soaked overnight
● Wash and rinse until completely clean (can be directly dimordant or dry first if
you are going to use it the other day).

 Mordant
Mordant functions to give a metal element to the fabric, so that the cloth is able to bind
tannins or dyes to the leaves.

 Material :
● Vinegar or vinegar to eat
● 100 grams of baking soda
● 300 grams of alum
● 30 grams of tunjung
● 3 liters of room temperature water
● Enough warm water.

 Method :
● Dissolve baking soda into 3 liters of room temperature water and then stir
● Put in 12 bottle caps of food vinegar or 2 bottle caps of source vinegar, then stir
● Dissolve alum with warm water then slowly put it into the previous solution, stir
until the foam in the solution disappears
● Enter the tunjung and stir until well blended
● Soak the cloth in the mordant solution while squeezing it for about 5 minutes
● Dry it in the sun
● The cloth is ready to be pounded.

 Pounding
 Pounded :
● Prepare leaves with tannins, low water content, not hard, choose leaves that are of
medium age (not old/not young).
For example :
● Tap the leaves gradually/sequentially. Don't jump around. The leaves that have
been tapped will dry out, if they are tapped again/repeated they cannot produce
color.

 Fixation
 Material :
● Alum
● Plain water

 Method :
● Dissolve 1 tablespoon of alum in 300 ml of water
● Rub it on the cloth slowly
● Wind it up
● Prepare 2 tablespoons of alum dissolved in 6 dippers of water
● Soak a cloth that has been aerated using this solution for 10 minutes
● Wind it dry
● Wash using mild soap, don't use a washing machine (as well as for maintenance).
