TOPIC: Poetry
SUB TOPIC: Metaphor in Poetry
1. Two metaphors found in the poem are: “Flames are horses” and “New horses gallop”.
Here in both metaphors flames is being compared to horses. This seeks to explain the
quickness the fire has displayed just as a horse would.
2. “Quickly over ash (line 4)” means the fire has worked fast causing the woods/ sticks to
become ash.
3. A campfire is happening at the point in time.
4. “New horses” refer to new flames.
5. “Canter with coal (line 12) suggests that the fire has come to an end and only the remains
(of the sticks) have remained.
