LESSON PLAN

Grade: 1-2
Time: 40 minutes
Large classes? Yes
Materials: Flashcards, worksheet (Mr. Shape Head’s Body), music CD (Head, shoulders, knees, and
toes), colored crayons, pencils, and CD player.
Organization: Group work and individual.
Aim: Raising awareness about body parts.
Target Vocabulary: Head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth, nose

Procedure:
 Greet the students as you enter the classroom and then make a sign for them to sit down.

Activity 1:
 Show and speak aloud the flashcards of the body parts to the whole class one by one. Slowly show
each flashcard card and have your students touch their part of the body (so, when you show the
"head" flashcard get everyone to touch their heads).
 Repeat each word three times and then ask your students to individually say each word.

Activity 2:
 Lay the flashcards lined up on the board.
 Randomly touch each card and have your students touch that part of their body and say the word.
 Do a final round with the cards in the correct order of the song ("Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes")
so that they are basically doing a practice run of the song.

Activity 3:
 Hand in the song lyrics handout to the students.
 Ask the students to stand up.
 Play the song ("Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes") and do all the actions happening in the song
(touching each part of your body with two hands in time). Make sure your students are following.

Activity 4:
 Hand in "Mr. Shape Head’s Body" worksheet to the students.
 Play the song again at the background for fun.
 Give them time to do the worksheet.
 While they are doing the task, help the students by walking around and answering questions.
