QUESTION 1: [20]
The pendulum shown in Figure 1 consist of a disc having a mass of 6 kg,
and slender rods AB,1.3 m long, and DC, 0.75 m long. Both rods have a
mass per unit length of 2 kg/m. The radius of the disc is 0.2 m. Calculate
the mass moment of inertia of the pendulum about an axis passing
through the point O, as seen on the side view.

QUESTION 4:
A centrifugal clutch with six shoes has to transmit 250 kW at 1 500 r.p.m.
The speed at which the engagement begins is 4/5" of the running speed.
The inside radius of the pulley rim is 160 mm and the centre of gravity of
the shoe lies at 130 mm from the centre of the spider. The shoes are lined
with Ferrodo material for which the coefficient of friction is 0.3. Determine
the mass of the shoes.

QUESTION 5: [16]
A leather belt is required to transmit 7.5 kW at 250 rpm from a pulley 1.2m
in diameter. The angle embraced is 165° and the coefficient of friction
between the belt and the pulley is 0.3. The safe working stress for the
leather belt is 1.5 MPa, density of leather is 1 Mg/m? and thickness of the
belt is 10 mm. Calculate the width of the belt taking centrifugal tension into
consideration.
