Defense emerged as the largest buyer through MSME sellers.

▪ This was 250% more than the purchases made in 2021.
▪ Among the states, Uttar Pradesh procured the maximum.

International Kolkata Book Fair.
▪ The fair is being organised at Boimela Courtyard, Central Park Fair Ground, Karunamayee,
Salt Lake Kolkata.
▪ Mara José Gálvez Salvador from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports and
Ambassador of Spain to India, Jose Maria Ridao Domínguez were present at the
inauguration.
▪ The fair will be open for visitors from January 31 to February 12.
▪ Around 20 countries from all over the world are participating in the fair. Spain is the focal
country for the second time this year.

security cooperation on 30-31 January.

in New Delhi to discuss cyber security cooperation and a collective approach to enhancing
resilience.
▪ The group also discussed cyber security capacity building for Quad members and for
partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
▪ The meeting discussed how Quad members can prevent cyber incidents and respond to
such cyber incidents along with building national and international capabilities for
security.

• Quad or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue is a group of four countries US, Japan, Australia
and India.
• The concept of QUAD was given by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2007 for

in 2004.

➢ Madhya Pradesh government announces 'Laadli Bahna' scheme

➢ मध्य प्रदे श सरकार ने 'िाडिी बहना' योजना की घोर्णा की
▪ Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the implementation
of Ladli Bahna Yojana on the occasion of Narmada Jayanti.
▪ Through this scheme, ₹ 1000 per month will be given to the sisters of poor and middle
class families of Madhya Pradesh.
▪ Women of all castes of the state – General, Backward, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes
will be able to get the benefit of this scheme.
▪ 65% sisters of Madhya Pradesh will be able to get the benefit of this scheme.
▪ Through the scheme, an amount of ₹ 60000 will be added to each sister's account by the
government in 5 years.

➢ Assam cabinet approves floriculture mission

➢ असम कैबबनेट ने फ्िोरीकल्चर लमशन को दी मंजूरी
▪ The Assam Cabinet, headed by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved a state floriculture
mission with an initial investment of Rs 150 crore that covers 20,000 farmers.
▪ The cabinet has also approved several other essential decisions including setting up a
different CM secretariat at Dibrugarh and building a new Raj Bhavan in Tezpur.
▪ Under State Floriculture Mission, the flower cultivation area will be expanded from 2,200
hectares to 3,288 hectares within three years.

▪ Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has inaugurated a “super site” and a mobile van to collect real-
time pollution data and tell its constituents.
▪ Delhi would become the first city in the country to get a real-time source segmentation of
air pollution.
▪ It will identify factors that are responsible for the increase in air pollution in Delhi.
▪ The project has been initiated by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee in collaboration
with IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, and TERI.

▪ National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan launched the US-
India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and Innovation Bridge.
▪ The iCET was announced by US President Joe Biden and PM Narendra Modi in May 2022.
▪ To elevate and expand strategic technology partnerships and defense industrial
cooperation between governments and businesses.
▪ Innovation Bridge will connect both countries' defense startups.

▪ The Union Ministry of Education has released the All India Survey on Higher Education
(AISHE) 2020-2021.
▪ According to the report Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of colleges in the country,
followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Highlight of the report

• The top 10 states in terms of number of colleges in India - Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya
Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana and Kerala, each having at least 29 or more
colleges per lakh population.

• There are 8,114 colleges in Uttar Pradesh and 32 colleges per one lakh population.
• Similarly, Maharashtra is at number two with 4,532 colleges and 34 colleges per lakh
population.
• Karnataka ranks third with 4,233 colleges and 62 colleges per lakh population, while
Rajasthan ranks fourth with 3,694 colleges and 40 colleges per lakh population.
• Most of the colleges offer undergraduate level programs only.
• Only 2.9 percent colleges offer PhD level programs and 55.2 percent offer postgraduate
level programmes.
• The report shows a nationwide increase of 7.5% in student enrollment in 2020-21 as
compared to 2019-20.

• The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) for the age group 18-23 years has increased from 25.6%
in 2019-20 to 27.3% in 2020-21.
• Gender Parity Index (GPI), the ratio of female GER to male GER, has increased from 1 in
2017-18 to 1.05 in 2020-21.
• The female enrollment in North East states in 2020-21 is 6.14 lakh, which is higher than
the male enrollment of 5.92 lakh, for every 100 male students, there are 104 female
students in the North East region.
About AISHE Survey

• The Ministry of Education has been conducting this survey since 2011, it includes higher
educational institutions located in India.
• In AISHE 2020-21, for the first time data collection has been done using a completely
online data collection platform developed by the Department of Higher Education
through National Informatics Center (NIC).

▪ According to the latest ranking, released by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework
(IIRF), the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad is the best college to pursue
the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in India.
▪ IIM Ahmedabad is followed by IIM Bengaluru and IIM Kolkata at second and third spots,
respectively.
▪ Among private colleges, the Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur has
topped the rankings.

▪ Uttarakhand (Manaskhand), Maharashtra (Sade Tin Shaktipeeth and Nari Shakti) and
Uttar Pradesh (Ayodhya Deepotsav) have been selected for best three tableaux from
States and Union Territories respectively.

▪ A tableau based on the theme of wildlife and religious places of the state was displayed
by the Uttarakhand government.
▪ In the forefront of the tableau, the Corbett National Park featured deer, reindeer and a
variety of birds.
▪ Its centre featured the state animal musk deer, the national bird peacock and the ghoral.
▪ Next, the tableau of Jageshwar Dham was displayed in Manskhand of Almora district.
There are 125 big, small ancient temples here and deodar trees were shown at the back.

• The Punjab Regiment has received the award for the best marching contingent in all the
three services.
Best marching team

• The best marching contingent award went to the marching contingent of the Central
Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

cricket.

2008 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
▪ He scored 3,982 runs for India in the longest format that including 12 centuries and 15
fifties.
▪ In the one-day, he had 339 runs that included a half-century.

▪ Well-known poet and writer, KV Tirumalesh passed away at the age of 82 in Hyderabad
(Telangana) due to an age-related illness.
▪ In 2016, he was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi award for his collection of poems -
Akshaya Kavya - along with several other literary awards.
▪ His critical works include an essay on Da Ra Bendre's poems and existentialism in
Kannada.
▪ He was also a retired professor, who taught at the English and Foreign Languages
University, Hyderabad.

▪ Former Union Law Minister and veteran lawyer, Shanti Bhushan passed away at the age
of 97 in New Delhi.
▪ He served as the law minister of India under the Morarji Desai government from 1977 to
1979.
▪ He was best known for successfully arguing for setting aside the election of Indira Gandhi
in 1975.
▪ In his political career, he was a member of Congress and later joined the Janata Party.
▪ He also served as a Rajya Sabha member from 14 July 1977 to 2 April 1980.
