2.0 Pollution Issues

Pollution issues that we will focus is the causes for the increase in environmental pollution
and ways we can reduce the pollutions. There are three causes will be provided and three
solutions to overcome it.

2.1 Causes of increase in the environmental pollution in Malaysia.

The Profits In Exploitation Of The Enviroment

In Malaysia one of most profitable industries that government can enjoy revenues is from
mining and logging activities, According to n Pahang itself raised the issues of one of issues
is bauxite mining2. Aizyl, A. (2016) also reported in the news article that Pahang State
government itself gained RM 180 million from the mining of bauxite. Thus, the amounts of
profits received has make the government to turn the blind eyes on the effects of such
exploitation.

Less awareness in taking care enviroment pollution by the youth

In the news reported by Mohd. Shariza Abdullah (2017) reported that Dr. Mazlin Mokhtar a
lecturer suggested that Malaysia has to review their education system in educating the youth
of enviroment responsibility3. The education does not need to come from the parent’s
responsibility but also from the community itself. He also urges that everyone should find a
solutions together which include the youth to solve the environment issues.

The growing human population

The growing number of human population has created for high demands for goods and
services (Hussain, HA. & Ogboo, CA, 2016). Hussain, HA. also add that in order to fulfil
most of the human demand, the enviroment has to pay for the consequences of waste
generation. This is because according to their research found out that the waste generation in
Malaysia in 2013 itself was 33,000 tons per day which already exceed their projectile image

of amount of thrash in 2020. This urges a serious attention to stop the growing number of
waste generation in fulfilling the population needs.
2.2 Suggestions of solutions that will help to reduce the environmental pollution in
Malaysia.

State Assembly and Parliament to review the law

In order to curb the issues of mining and deforestation that affected the enviroment and
surrounding of the citizens. The State assembly and parliament has to review the available
law regarding the mining licensing and deforestation. The law should not just concern with
legalising the activities with permission but encourages the activities to be conducted in
orderly manner to protect our enviroment.

Providing environmental education for the youth

Thapa (1999) suggested that one of the best ways in preserving the enviroment itself is by
providing environmental education towards the students as they will be the future leader 4.
Environmental education is a knowledge, attitudes, values and awareness among the
individuals and society, towards environmental problems like global deforestation, open
burning and others of environmental issue concern. Thus, providing environmental education
for the youth will encourages them to tackle more of the environmental issue concern.

Empowers community with 3R programs

3R is the program of reduce, reuse and recycle program in order to reduce the waste
generation among population. It’s encourages people to stop generating more waste in the
landfill. Dr Mohd Pauze Mohamad Taha said in the interview with the Star newspaper said
that 2016 Malaysia’s recycling rate is only 17.5% despite introducing the waste segregation
programme5. Dr Mohd Pauze also suggested that we empower the community by raising their
level of awareness on 3Rs programme.

3.0 Conclusion

The causes for environmental pollution that are identified in this essay is the growing human
population, the profits in exploitation of the enviroment and also there is less awareness in
taking care enviroment pollution by the youth. In order to solve this, the key solution is
awareness from all people to be involved with the enviroment issues.
