Punctuation Marks:

1. Fullstop/ period . we use it at the end of sentences.


Baker woke up early this morning.
2. comma , it means a pause in a sentence, either between phrases, clauses, or items in a
list.
Baker didn’t go to school, and he stayed in bed.
My favourite subjects are English, French, Maths and physics.
3. Question mark ? we use it at the end of questions.
Does your brother help you with your assignments?
4. Exclamation mark ! we use it after sentences that express emotions
Wow!
What an amazing building!

5. Apostrophe ‘ we use it to combine words into contractions OR possessive nouns

don’t, she’ll, weren’t (contractions/ short forms)

This is Baker’s book.

I visited the teacher’s house. (Possessive nouns)

6. Colon: it means (and they are). We use it to connect sentences when making a list or
introduce a quote or explanation. 

- There are three types of muscle in the body: cardiac, smooth, and skeletal. / Baker said:
“I live in Amma.”

7. Quotation marks “” used with direct quotes (exact words of people)

Ahmad said: “I won the championship.”

8. Parenthesis () we use it to separate words

Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) was a famous actress.
