examples.
3. How about square root? Can we plot those numbers?

B. Motivation (Optional) (3 minutes)

“Plot Me”. Answer:

Group yourselves by 4. There’s a number line on the floor. Then
each group will have a representative and pick a card, and step
where does the number located. √𝟐 √𝟓 √𝟔 2.75 𝝅

Activity (15 minutes)

Okay po.
On a ¼ sheet of paper. Write I if the number is irrational, and
R if it is rational. (Individual).

10. √𝟏𝟐

Analysis (5 minutes)

Answer the following questions: Answers:

1. What did you observe from the following set of numbers? (Students’ answers may vary)
2. How did you know if it is irrational or rational numbers?
3. How did you determine if the given square roots lies on that
numbers?
Abstraction (10 minutes)

Let’s continue our discussion yesterday, so we already knew how to

plot some irrational numbers.

Now, I will be teaching you how to plot irrational numbers on a number

line, especially square roots.

But before that, from the activity we did “Plot Me”, how did you plot
those irrational numbers. Anyone?

Okay, you Ms. May. Uhm, sir for me po. We were able to plots those
numbers estimating the square root of a whole
number to the nearest hundredths.
Okay, thank you.

On plotting square roots on a number line. Everyone needs to know

what perfect square is. Okay Mr. Gonzales, give me an example of a
perfect square. 1, 4, 9, 16 po sir.

Very good. Perfect square is the result of those whole numbers

multiplied by itself. 1 multiplied by 1 is 1. 2 multiplied by 2 is 4. 3
multiplied by 3 is 9. According to the examples of Mr. Gonzales.

What is the purpose of perfect squares on plotting square roots on a

number line? It is because we need to determine where does the
number falls in between the two perfect squares. For example, square
root of 2 is in between of square root of 1 and 4. It means that the
square root of 2 must be in between of 1 and 2. Since it is square root
of 2 and is closer to square root of 1 than 4, so the square root of 2
must be closer on 1 than 2.

Ms. Dela Torre, where does square root of 8 falls to? I think po sir, it falls between square root of 4 and 9 or
between 2 and 3 po. And is closer to 3 po sir.

Who will agree on Ms. Dela Torre? (All students raise their hands)

Really? Yes, po sir?

It is correct.

Another example, where does square root of 41 falls to? Anyone? (Students raises hand)

Mr. Pielago, where do you think it falls to? Uhm sir pwede magbisaya?
You may. I think po sir naa siya sa tunga sa 6 and 7. And is
closer to 6 po sir.
Who will agree on Mr. Pielago? (Most students raise their hand)

And who will disagree? (Some students raise their hand)

It is actually correct. It is in between square root of 36 and 49 or 6 and

7. And is closer to 6.

Did you understand how to plot square roots? Yes, po sir.

Any questions? None po sir.
Application (15 minutes)

Get ½ sheet of paper and answer the following questions in the screen.
Copy and Answer. Answers:

Answer the following by pair.

A. Direction: Solve the following problem. A.

1. Dave’s and John’s house are √11km apart. How far is Dave’s 1. √11km. Their houses should be in
house and John’s house? Can you visualize and picture out how between of 3 and 4. And is closer to 3.
far is the distance between their houses?

2. Point A and point B is √31 away from each other. Point A and 2. Point A and B is in between 5 and 6, closer
point C is √51 away from each other. Point B and Point C is √24 to 5. Point A and C is in between 7 and 8,
away from each other. Where does each distance lie in the closer to 7. And point B and C is in
number line? between 4 and 5, closer to 5.

3. A ball is thrown. And placed at √87 between two points Y and Z,

3. Point Z is at 10. And the ball is much closer
with the same distance between them. Point Y is at 9. Where
to point Y.
does point Z located, and where does the ball much closer to?

Assessment (5 minutes)

Direction: Determine where does the number falls in between and Answers:
where it is much closer to.

1. √92 1. Falls in between 9 and 10, closer to 10.

2. √123 2. Falls in between 11 and 12, closer to 11.
3. Falls in between 7 and 8, closer to 7.
3. √56
4. Falls in between 12 and 13, closer to 12.
4. √150 5. Falls in between 14 and 15,
5. √200
Assignment/Agreement

Study the following:

Estimates the square root of a whole number to the nearest

hundredth.

Plots irrational numbers on a number line.

We will have a quiz on our next meet. Yes, po sir.
