= 8.55(3 d.p)
4. Substitution
Given that a = 8, b = 1 and c = -12, find the value of (ac)b.
(ac)b = (8 x (-12)1
(-96)1 = -96
5. Factorization
Factorize completely: x2 + 2x + 1
x2 + x + x + 1
x(x + 1) + 1(x + 1)
(x + 1) (x + 1)
(x + 1)2
6. Equation
Solve the equation: 4x – 3 = 5x – 7
4x = 5x – 7 + 3

4x = 5x – 4
4x – 5x = - 4
-x = -4
x=4
7. Hire purchase
A computer system is offered on hire purchase terms for $350 000. A
down payment of 20% of the cost price is required to be paid. The
balance is to be paid in 24 monthly installments.
(a) Calculate the amount to be paid as the down payment.
Dp = 20% x $350 000
20
Dp = 100 x $350 000
Dp = $70 000
(b) Calculate the outstanding amount to be paid.
Outstanding balance = $350 000 - $70000
= $280 000
(c) Calculate the monthly installments to the nearest dollars
$ 280 000
Monthly installments = 24
$11667
8. Construction

9. Transformation
On graph paper provided, plot the points A, B and C whose
coordinates are (-3, 0), (0, 4) and (3, 0) respectively. Join the points to
form triangle ABC. If triangle ABC is reflected in the x-axis, draw its
image and label the points A1B1C1.
10. Function
Given that f(x) = (2 + x), find the value of
(a) f(0)
(b) f(1)
(c) f(-2)
11. Circle Theorem
Study the diagram, the answer question below.

In the circle with centre O, ABC is a triangle, AC = 12cm and BC = 5cm.

Calculate the length of OB.
