Foreign Literature

- Foreign literature review surveys scholarly articles, books and other sources
relevant to a particular issue, area of research, or theory created ny the
researchers of other countries and by so doing, providing a description, summary,
and critical evaluation of these works.

According to El Mansour, B., & Mupinga, D. M. (2007). Students' positive and

negative experiences in hybrid and online classes. College student journal, 41(1),
242., They concluded that both Online and Hybrid Classes have met the expectations
of the students who participated in their survey. Even so, the large number of
students who had a negative experience are in the Online Classes. Their feedbacks
are “Unreliable Internet connection on their ISP (Internet Service Provider)”, “Too
many technical problems with the [college’s] course management platform
communication”, and “Instructor feedback tended to be slow” which shows the
negative side of taking an online class instead of hybrid class. As you can see, it
is very similar to the experiences of Grade 12 ABM students of Monlimar Development
Academy Inc. and with the help of the data obtained from the students, it can help
to draw the same conclusion of the impact of unstable internet on the quality
learning of Grade 12 ABM students. Whether that will be the outcome, this can prove
that having an unstable internet connection can affect the Academic Performance of
an online student.

According to Giota, K. G., & Kleftaras, G. (2014). Mental health apps:

innovations, risks and ethical considerations. E-Health Telecommunication Systems
and Networks, 2014. They stated that there are risks and Ethical Considerations in
Mental Health of a person in terms of using mobile applications for mental health.
They notice that psychological expert laborers ought to know the risk of potential
ethical dilemmas when using mobile devices and applications for psychological well-
being issues. They mentioned “One of the most common issues revolve around the
constraints of technology itself as a medium, such as problematic devices and
telecommunication technologies, battery failures, as well as unreliable or unstable
internet connection.”. So if we evaluate what they said, the unstable internet
connection is one of the factors that could affect their project for making mobile
applications for mental health problems. If we link our study, Unstable Internet
Connection can also affect students in terms of mental health. They may also
experience potential ethical dilemmas that can lead to burnout stress according to
Mullen, P. R., Morris, C., & Lord, M. (2017). The experience of ethical dilemmas,
burnout, and stress among practicing counselors. Counseling and Values, 62(1), 37-
56.

Research Design
This study followed a quantitative design and took a descriptive approach to tackle
the research question, allowing the researchers to get an in-depth understanding of
the negative impacts of unstable internet connection. Quantitative research is the
systematic empirical investigation of observable phenomena via statistical,
mathematical, or computational techniques. The researchers use the descriptive
research design to describe phenomena or relationships within a single group
sample.

The researchers use the descriptive design to portray a specific condition or

phenomenon in a given example utilizing quantifiable descriptors. It includes the
frequency, rate, Likert scale, mean, and standard deviation in addressing the
examination questions. As stated by Gall, M.D., Gall, J.P., Borg, W.R. (2007),
Educational research: An introduction (8th ed.). Boston: Pearson, The goal of
descriptive research is to describe a phenomenon and its characteristics. This
research is more concerned with what rather than how or why something has happened.
Therefore, observation and survey tools are often used to gather data. This design
is appropriate for our research because through the data we have collected we will
evaluate how much negative impacts of unstable internet connection among Grade 12
ABM students.

The researchers will collect data by using survey to gather all the finding about
the negative impact unstable. The first part is all about the demographic profile
to know the information about the respondents in ABM. Second part is all about the
negative impacts of unstable internet to the respondents. It has 3 sections, first
Academic performance to know how the unstable internet affect his/her performance
in school, second is for mental health for the researchers to know how widely it
affects the mental health of the respondents, third is time management to know the
effects of unstable internet to the time of respondents in ABM.
