Reflective Essay

In order to complete a genre transformation, I first had to understand

the source material and the target genre. For this project, I chose to

transform an educational article about cryptocurrencies into a fiction story.

The first step I took was to analyze the article, paying attention to the key

points and information that it presented. I also looked at the tone and style

of the article, which was quite technical and informative. I decided that I

would keep the basic information about cryptocurrencies, but I added

fictional characters and a plot that would make it more interesting and

engaging for the reader

To complete the genre transformation, I used my knowledge of both

the cryptocurrencies and fiction genres, as well as my skills in creative

writing. I had to be able to take the original article and re-imagine it in a

new setting and with new elements, while still maintaining the overall tone

and themes of the original. It was a challenging task, but it was also an

exciting and rewarding experience.

I took the article and analyzed it, paying attention to the key points

and information it presented. The article provided a lot of technical

information about the inner workings of cryptocurrencies and their potential

uses. This information would be essential in developing the theme and plot

of my fiction story. I also paid attention to the tone of the article, which

would have been technical and informative. This helped me to understand

the style and perspective from which the article was written.

The new audience I am addressing in my translation is a general

audience with a more casual interest in the topic of cryptocurrencies. I chose

to use the genre of fiction to communicate with this audience because fiction

stories are often more accessible and relatable to a wider range of readers.

They allow for a deeper emotional connection to the story and its themes,

making them more memorable and impactful. One of the main reasons why

I chose this new genre is that it would allow me to present the technical

information in a more digestible and relatable format. By using fictional

characters and a plot, I was able to take the technical information and make

it more accessible to a general audience. I needed to understand the

audience that I was addressing and the best way to communicate with them.

For example, I considered the language and tone that I used in order to

make the story accessible to a general audience.

To integrate the information from the academic article into my new

genre, I considered what information was most important and relevant to

the story. In the article, there is a lot of technical information about the

mechanics of how cryptocurrencies work, as well as information about their

potential uses and implications. For my fiction story, I kept the information

about the mechanics of how cryptocurrencies work, as it was important for

the audience to understand how the technology works in order to

understand the story. However, I changed the way the information was

presented. Instead of just listing facts and statistics, I used creative and

descriptive language to explain the concepts and make them more engaging

for the reader.

During week 1, we read about genres which helped a lot about

understanding what a genre is. We read “GENRE in the WILD_ Understanding

Genre Within Rhetorical”. Genre is used to classify things and can be used to

help accomplish people’s goals. Also “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike

Bunn was very helpful because the author describes it as trying to

understand how the piece of writing was put together by the author and

what you can learn from the text. Both if these readings helped me create a

better genre translation

Overall, the process of creating a genre transformation required a

deep understanding of both the source material and the target genre which

was a story with a journal, as well as the ability to think creatively and make

difficult choices. By analyzing the source material, understanding the

conventions of the target genre, and by incorporating elements from the

article, I was able to successfully transform the story.
