Parents’ Home Tutorial Experiences amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Philosophical Stance

The philosophical stance underlies the fundamental choices that are made
in answering research questions that aim to examine the philosophical basis of this study
as themes are to be discovered from the data to avoid preconceived ideas. This study on
Parents’ Home Tutorial Experiences amidst COVID-19 Pandemic is grounded on the
following positions: ontology, epistemology, axiology, and methodological assumption.

Ontologically, the support and involvement of parents is vital in their


child’s development of self-esteem and efficacy. It is believed that parental support
fosters motivation and persistence in academics, which in turn leads to improve
academic performance (Mih,2013).
As with epistemology, it is a fact that parental involvement is linked to
academic self-esteem and self-efficacy in positive ways. This means that the children will
boost his/her performance. With this research, it can be possible to see how parents
view their role as parents and how they can alter that role to better work with their
children, based off their own background and experiences. These implications provide
many theoretical and practical uses for future research to study and expand upon
Axiologically, the researcher hold the importance of the participants’
individuality whatever the perception of the person on the matter of parental support
and involvement will be respected by the researchers. The researchers will set aside
their personal views and opinions thereby giving emphasis on the participant’s beliefs
and claims.
The basis of methodological assumption, the researchers felt the need to
investigate how parents provide support on their children’s academic task through asking
open-ended questions and direct observations to arrive at the conclusion. Through these
methods, a new information will be gathered to agree on negate the existing
psychological and educational theories
