Introduction

Background information
Throughout my folio I want to explore horror arts. Horror art is a
story which focus is on creating a feeling of fear. In horror art, it
can feature elements such as ghosts, witches, or vampire, or it can
also address more realistic psychological fears. Psychological fears
include things like Aerophobia (fear of flying), Arachnophobia (fear
of spiders), Emetophobia (fear of vomiting), Hypochondria (fear of
becoming ill) and many more. The reason that I want to do horror
art is because of I have interest in drawing dark things such as
animals (spiders, snakes) and even scary things. Horror art is my
passion instead of surrealism art or other things. As I am doing this
folio, I want to learn more about horror art and the history of it.

Zdzislaw Beksinski, unknown name, 1977.

Medium used: Oil paints.

History
Horror art is a very deathly and deathlike mood. It has
many variations starting from its violence scenes too its
dark and depressed feeling and sometimes its
daydreams, night screams, corpses and horrifying
imagery. The most popular horror artist in history is
known as Henri Fuseli, he was a romantic painter
known for his scary paintings and frequent exploration
of creepy themes. Henri’s most known artwork is The
Nightmare which he painted it in 1781 but he also Henry Fuseli, The nightmare, 1781.
created many more that are well known too. Horror Medium used: Oil on canvas.
arts purposes is to provide a sense of excitement or
mystery, terror, shock or fear and it’s creating a culture
or personal connection, tapping into an inbuilt fear
such as death.

Inspiration
For inspiration a few artists come to my mind such as Henry Fuseli, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Junji Ito, and Clive
Barker. My inspiration comes from Henry Fuseli and Zdzislaw Beksinski mostly, they are the reason for me
doing this type of art (horror art) and they are the one who inspires my artwork in this folio. Henry Fuseli
was described as a master of light and shadow. He simply supplied the colors across it randomly rather
than setting out his palette carefully in the way of most painters. His artworks are so unique and different
which what my artwork is inspired by. Zdzislaw Beksinski artwork is also unique, and it is lots of fear,
deaths, wars and nightmares, his work is considered as “gothic dystopian surrealism” which is I think so
cool, it is so meaningful and scary at the same time which I want my artwork to be like that. The message
or meaning of my artwork I want it to be that sometimes scary things are not scary and with horror art we
can do whatever we want.
