Type National patent application
(57) Abstract In the present invention, there is disclosed a hydrogel for
covering wounds containing 0.2 to 0.8 percent by weight of
polyvinylpyrrolidone with molecular weight ranging from 30
to 50 000 Dalton, 0.8 to 0.2 percent by weight of
carboxymethyl cellulose or collagen, 1.5 to 2.5 percent by
weight of agar, 0.5 to 1.5 percent by weight of
polyethyleneglycol with molecular weight in the range of 200
to 20 000 Dalton, 0.5 to 1.5 percent by weight of glycerin and
it optionally contains at least one antibacterial and/or
antiseptic agent, preferably boric acid, in an amount of 1 to 5
percent by weight, wherein all the above indicated
components together form 6 to 10 percent by weight of
hydrogel while the balance up to 100 percent by weight is
water. There is also disclosed a process for preparing the
above-described hydrogel, said preparation process
comprising a step of preparing a starting polymeric aqueous
solution containing all the indicated components inclusive of
water in the corresponding concentration ranges and in
addition thereto 10 to 30 parts by weight of added water,
further heating so prepared polymeric solution in a glass
container within an autoclave at a temperature ranging from
115 to 125 degC under the action of steam at a pressure in the
range of 15 to 20 psi (103.5 to 138 kPa) for a period of 35 to
15 minutes, further placing the sterilized polymeric solution
under aseptic conditions into a flat vessel wherein it
gelatinizes for a period of 5 to 10 minutes, further ripening of

the obtained hydrogel under continuous spontaneous

crosslinking at room temperature for a period of 10 to 30
minutes wherein during ripening and crosslinking a loss of 10
to 30 percent by weight of water is encountered.
