Firefighters are most at risk of exposure.

PFAS make protective clothing waterproof, and the chemical is found in widely used fire
extinguishing foams. According to the United States, however, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, most people have measurable levels of her PFAS in their
bodies. Exposure usually occurs through ingestion of food grown in soil treated with fertilizers
made from PFAS-contaminated drinking water or chemically contaminated wastewater (SN:
11/24/18, p. 18). An estimated 2,854 locations in the United States have him contaminated with
PFAS. "People and communities have been exposed to significant levels of these chemicals. If
they can be shown to be in an area of significant exposure, they should be tested at their usual
point of care." said Ned Kalong, an epidemiologist at the Colorado School of Public Health who
chaired the committee, in a report prepared by the National Academy. The committee linked
PFAS exposure to a slightly different list of disorders than the NYU team and found "sufficient
evidence" to link PFAS to four disorders.
These include weak antibody responses to vaccinations, abnormally high cholesterol levels,
poor growth in children and fetuses, and kidney cancer. The evidence was "suggestive" for
breast and testicular cancer, thyroid problems, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel
disease.
