ALE seeks community support through its new Sky Canvas Community Club, which sells non-
fungible tokens (NFTs) tied to member-only benefits. However, NFTs are closely associated
with the cryptocurrency community, which advocates for “alternative currencies” outside
traditional markets.

Cryptocurrencies pose significant risks to investors, including those participating in Ponzi


schemes, the Securities and Exchange Commission has warned (opens in new tab). According
to the San Francisco Chronicle (opens in new tab), members of the cryptocurrency community
are closely associated with misogyny and other practices that discourage diversity, debate and
respect.

ALE has not disclosed whether selling NFTs is currently the only way to make money, or
whether investors will provide other sources of funding. Nor has it revealed when it plans to
launch the satellites that make these meteorites.

But CEO Rena Okajima said in a press release on Thursday that 30 Space Entertainment [this]
believes it can advance our scientific understanding of climate change.
