Burger King employs JIT while McDonald's uses MRP-II.

MRP-benefit II is is that customer orders can be filled more quickly. A drawback is the
possibility for overproducing low-demand goods (in the instance of McDonald's, this can be
food that is either cold or stale).

JIT has the benefit of making customisation easier. A drawback is lengthier wait times for
customers if there is an unforeseen substantial rise in demand, which results in a delay in
filling their orders. The implications of the two systems for the supply chain are also
different: MRP-II systems are less susceptible to short-term interruptions in the supply chain
due to strikes or natural disasters that may disrupt deliveries because they depend on
maintaining a larger supply of raw materials than JIT systems.
