1. Who is Prometheus? What motivates Prometheus to revolt against Zeus?

Prometheus is one of the Titans, the supreme trickster, and the god of fire. He values his
friendship with human beings above reverence for Zeus.

2. What is the sin for which Prometheus is being punished by Zeus? What is his punishment for the
crime?

Prometheus stole fire from the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus, which enraged
Zeus. Zeus decided to punish Prometheus harshly for his bold disobedience and theft from the
gods. He chained the immortal Titan to a stone pillar on Mount Caucasus for all eternity, leaving
him exposed to the elements. Furthermore, Zeus sent an eagle every day to peck at Prometheus'
liver, which regenerated every night due to his immortality. Prometheus was sentenced to eternal
agony for deceiving Zeus and the other gods.

3. Who will eventually free Prometheus?

With Zeus' approval, the Greek hero Heracles killed the eagle to release Prometheus from
this suffering.

If I would be given the chance to meet and greet Prometheus, I’d rather not ask him about
what future awaits me. I’d prefer to just keep it a secret. I’d just go with the flow. I don’t want to
end up like Oedipus. Knowing what my future will be would just give me a huge problem I think…
