Title: Degree of Resillience of Public High Schools for Full Face-to-face Opening of

Classes

Due to the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, in-person classes were not allowed

in SY 2020-2021 and SY 2021-2022. Instead, DepEd shifted to distance learning where

students learned their lessons at home through multiple learning delivery modalities such

as printed/offline modular; online; radio and television-based instruction; and blended

learning or a combination of two delivery modes. For the first time in two years, the

Department of Education (DepEd) formally opens the School Year (SY) 2022-2023 on

August 22 which enabled public schools nationwide to open their doors to all students

for face-to-face classes.

In addition, in her first order as DepEd chief, Vice President Sara Duterte

ordered all schools to return to face-to-face classes on November 2, although exemptions

can be given to very “specific areas.” As it continues to implement the progressive

expansion of in-person classes, the DepEd said that more than 80 percent of public

schools nationwide have been deemed ready for the resumption of face-to-face classes

this school year.

Unfortunately, little is known on the resilience on full opening of face-to-face

classes in public high schools in the MIMAROPA region, more specifically in

Marinduque. Alltough it was assessed by the division office, there is a potential that

schools in certain areas might still lack on equipments, facilities, or resilience to comply

on the guidelines released by the Department of Education. Additionally, a large portion

of the study that has been done focuses on the preparedness of students on the opening of

face-to-face classes but does not assess the resilience of the educational institutions.

The purpose of the present study was to explore the degree of resilience of public

high schools for full face-to-face opening of classes. The results in this study will be of

use to the Department of Education, the institution, and students in knowing if their
schools who opened for full face-to-face were resilient enough to handle any potential

situation that the pandemic ca impose in todays educational environment.
