1. Proposed Project Title

To Design and Fabricate Pre School Play Train using local materials
2. Introduction
Trains have been a popular form of transportation since the 19th century when the first train was
inverted in England during the industrial revolution due to high need of transportation of goods
and materials from one place to another. Railway transport was cheap and affordable people
moved from place to another in hours instead of days. A play train, is a miniature replica of a
real train that is designed for play and entertainment. They have been a popular toy for children
and adults for over hundred years.
In the post-World War II era, play trains became increasingly popular among adults as a hobby,
with many people building elaborate model train layouts in their homes. Today, play trains are
available in a wide variety of sizes and styles, from small, battery-operated trains for children to
large, detailed model trains for collectors. They can be powered by electricity, battery and
windup spring, and controlled by remote control or track-side control. (Carv, 2007).
3. Problem statement
Most play trains can be traced back to the early 19th century, when the first play trains were
made of expensive metallic surface materials and were powered by clockwork mechanisms.
These early play trains were considered luxury toys for wealthy children hence a play train made
of local cheap material would be very affordable for everyone as would it reduce the cost of
production.

4. Aim
This project aims to design and fabricate an electric play train for children to play with in
Zambia, using radio waves as the means of propulsion and control.
5. Objectives
1) Design and fabricate a functional electric play train
2) Use safe and durable materials that are locally available in Zambia
3) Incorporate interactive features such as realistic train sounds and lighting ( must be Authentic)

6. Conclusion
This project aims to design and fabricate an electric play train that is safe, durable, and interactive
in Zambia, using radio waves for propulsion and control. The train will be powered by an electric
motor. With the incorporation of realistic train sounds and lighting, the train will provide an
immersive and enjoyable play experience for children. The project is expected to be completed
within 6 months and have a budget of ZMW 4000. All the cost of the project will be developed in
Zambia Kwacha. This project will be innovative as it uses radio waves in propulsion and control
which is not prevalent in the current electric play train market (for electrical guys do not know if
we include it).
