IELTS Writing Task 2

Question:
Some people think that staying in hotels is not a good option for tourists to want to
know about a country or its people. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of
staying in hotels as a tourist – 250 words

Example answer:
Nowadays, many tourists choose to stay in hotels as an easy and comfortable option
for accommodation on their holidays, but some people think that this does not give
the best experience of a country or its people. In this essay I will discuss the pros and
cons of choosing hotel accommodation as a tourist.
On one hand, hotels can be a very easy and comfortable option for travellers. Hotels
often have services that can make a tourist’s experience more comfortable, such as
room service, housekeeping, and 24-hour service. Furthermore, hotels offer safety
and security. For example, hotels usually have security guards for the safety of
guests. Finally, many hotels are located in areas that are near tourist attractions,
airports, and public transport, making it easy for travellers to explore their holiday
destination.
On the other hand, if a tourist really wants to know about the local culture of a
country, a hotel may not be the best choice of accommodation. These tourists may
prefer to use different accommodation, such as homestays, where they can live with
a local family and learn about the local culture, and lifestyle of the people. Moreover,
staying in hotels can be expensive, especially in popular tourist destinations.
Homestays or local bed and breakfasts are usually much cheaper.
In conclusion, we can see that there both advantages and disadvantages to staying in
hotels. While staying in hotels can be comfortable and convenient, it may not
provide the best way to get to know a country or its people
