Dear Parent or Guardian of Student 18,

Hello, my name is Hailee Fischer and I am a student at South Dakota State University,
majoring in Elementary Education. I have had the privilege of working with your student over
the course of this semester. I have enjoyed getting to know the students, as well as watching
them grow in their academic abilities. I have learned a lot over the course of this semester, and I
am glad that I have gotten to experience them with your child.
During my time at Camelot Intermediate School, I am required to teach a specific content
area to a group of students. I am required to teach a unit. I chose to work with a specific group of
4th graders on reading three text structures: cause and effect, compare and contrast, and sequence
and chronology. During this time, I prepared lessons, analyzed data, and researched certain
topics. The students practiced identifying the three text structures in passages. Then, they applied
what they knew into a project called a pamphlet. In their pamphlet they wrote about koalas and
sloths, and they got to bring this project home. Then, we took an assessment at the end of the
unit. I have been able to break down the data from the unit and am overjoyed to announce that
each student met the unit goal of growing by 30% of their pre-assessment score or meeting the
objective of 80% or higher.
Student 18 has been great to work with. He was always to participate through all of the
lessons. His energetic and witty personality makes it fun to have him in class. He is always
willing to help a classmate out. Student 18 scored a 72% on the pre-assessment. The student
knew basic information on the text structures. He was able to receive a score of 92% by the end
of the unit. He exceeded the unit goal of receiving an 80% or higher.
The students in the Camelot 4th Grade Teal Team have taught me the skills I need to be
successful in my future classroom. I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to work with your
son over the course of this semester.
Sincerely,

Hailee Fischer
