Introduction
The objective of this Quick Start Guide is to describe the steps to follow when exporting Test Cases from
Excel to TFS. For this you will need the basic template on Excel, Microsoft Test Manager installed
(Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Test Professional or Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate) on your machine with
the credentials necessary on TFS and the binaries from "Test Case Migrator Plus" (Excel/MHT) Tool.

Prerequisites

Both the following pre-requisites need to be present on the machine before you can run the “Test Case
Migrator Plus” tool. Without these, the tool will not function.

 Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or beyond RTM bits


o Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition RTM (Web Install) (OR)
o Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Premium Edition RTM (Web Install) (OR)
o Microsoft Visual Studio Test Professional RTM (Web Install) AND Microsoft Visual Studio
2010 Team Explorer (ISO)
 Version of Microsoft Office 2003 or beyond

Excel Information

On the Template you will find the follow columns these are the definitions of them:
 Test Case Source ID: If you are exporting a new test case leave it in blank but if you are updating
a created one the ID for this TC you need to fill here.
 Test Name: Is the Title for the TC
 Test Description: Is the summary of the TC
 Test Folder Hierarchy: The functional Area should be filled
 Assigned To: The creator name for the TC should be filled
 Status: By default on “Design”
 Priority: The TC priority should be filled from 1 to 4
 Suites Hierarchy (test belongs to theses suites): : By default on “Base”
 Step Name: If is a High level TC is only a simple step but if is a complete TC one step should be
filled by row leaving the others columns in blank.
 Expected Result: For each Step Name should be filled the expected result, if is a High Level TC
the expected result should be for all the TC.
 Automation Status: By default on “Non Automated”

Exporting on TFS

1. Fill the Test Cases in a excel file.


2. Unzip TestCaseMigratorPlus.zip.
3. Run as Administrator the TestCaseMigratorPlus.exe file
4. In Welcome page press Next button

5. In Source page select Excel Workbook option in the Select Data Source Type
In Specify file path for excel workbook, select the excel file with the test cases to be
migrated
6. In Enter row number that has field name select the row that contains the headers
7. On the header of the file are loaded, make sure the correct worksheet is selected and then
press Next button
8. In Destination page enter connect to the TFS server and then select the Team Project. After
that select Test Case option in the Work item type and then press Next button.
9. In Settings page select Create new settings file and then press Next button

10. In Field mapping page you should map some filed of the Destination fields with the Source
Field according the following table:

After that in the Test Suite combo box select Suites Hierarchy (Test belongs to these suites)
option and then press Next button
In Data Mapping page uncheck the Create area/iteration from source values checkbox.

Make sure that Destination Value of the table was the equivalent value that were sent in
the excel file.

12. In the

miscellaneous page check multiple test steps are present in single cell separated by new
line character (\n) option

13. Click Confirm button and then Click Save and migrated button to run the migration.
14. Wait until migration process is completed and check no errors are displayed.
15. Once the operation is completed review the migrated test cases are present into TFS:
