PROJECT BUILDER 6 (PB6): Evaluate and Propose

For this project builder, you can list step 1, 2 and 3 in the document. You will copy and
paste your writing into the submission box on Eli Review.
I am creating a page for the DALN. For context, DALN stands for Digital Archive of
Literacy Narratives. Since DALN does not currently have a wikipedia page I will have to start
from the beginning for which I have chosen to start by examining other writing studies wikipedia
pages and mold mine accordingly. I will begin by introducing DALN, introducing its creators, and
how this project was begun and its purposes. In total I want to create three total sections:
Introduction, History of changes and improvements, and contents within.
For the Introduction, I will be using my main source which would be the DALN itself. While using
supporting evidence of its creation from the rest of my sources, my introduction will include the
creators, Cynthia l.Selfe and H.Lewis Ulman, their original purpose as an archive of inclusive
narratives beginning in Ohio State University and roots in other academic structures, including
literacy research. In History of Changes and Improvement my main source will be The Unruly
Practice: Critically Evaluating the Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives, which asks questions
about ethical concerns over accessibility and privacy; Do collaborator understand what it means
to be contributors and what it means to participate in the DALN. In the first years of publication,
contributors were required to sign a deed of gift, granting OSU libraries custodianship and public
domain of the narratives uploaded. Later this changed to a creative common license, requiring
collaborators how/if they would like others to use their materials. This is an example of the
history and improvements I want to demonstrate DALN has undergone to accomplish their goal
of inclusivity and pedagogical writing studies. Furthermore I also want to expand on its origins in
academic structures and what this means in the broader context of inclusivity the site claims to
represent. Finally I want to navigate the DALN website and how it uses keywords to allow
individuals to search and navigate for different narratives according to preferences. I plan on
providing different examples of narratives one can find upon using DALN’s algorithm, How it has
been used as a research tool in educational settings, and in personal accounts of literary
narratives.
