1. Draw a cooling tower used in Airconditioning system with the components; cooling water line from the air
conditioning chiller then back to the chiller, make-up water system, atmospheric air induced fan, cooling tower
casing with accessories sprinkler of warm water, cooling elements, water basin etc., then label the components.

2. Explain the heat exchange principles of warm water and the atmospheric air.
The transfer of energy from a warmer to a cooler object is referred to as heat. Conditioning, convection, and
radiation are the three methods by which heat can be transferred. Convection is the principle of heat exchange between
warm water and atmospheric air. Convection is the movement of a heated fluid, such as air or water, that transfers
heat. When a liquid boils, this type of heat transfer is most visible in the kitchen. Natural convection is caused by the
tendency of most fluids to expand when heated, becoming less dense and rising due to increased buoyancy. This effect
is responsible for the uniform heating of water in a kettle or air in a heated room: heated molecules expand the space
they move in by increasing their speed against one another, rise, and then cool and come closer together again,
increasing density and sinking.
3. Why is it necessary to install make-up water system in an evaporative cooling tower.
Evaporative cooling towers, also known as cooling towers, are devices that use a natural principle that is as simple as
it is effective: heat dissipation from the mass itself causes forced evaporation of a small amount of water in
comparison to the main mass; the mass thus cools down. Water makeup is required to replace the mechanical transport
of water droplets (windage), evaporation, and blowdown that are required to maintain a controlled solids buildup in a
cooling tower. Makeup water is usually added to the cooling tower basin.
