Argumentative Essay - is a type of essay that uses evidence and facts to support the

claim it’s making. Its purpose is to persuade the reader to agree with the argument
being made.

A good argumentative essay will use facts and evidence to support the argument,
rather than just the author’s thoughts and opinions.

For example, you claim that Manila Zoo is the best place to visit in the Philippines. You
couldn’t just say that it’s the best place because you have visited your family there and
enjoyed it. For it to be an argumentative essay, you need to have facts and data to
support your argument, such as the number of child-friendly attractions in Manila Zoo,
various animals that anyone can encounter, and surveys of people who visited Manila
Zoo as a family and enjoyed it.

There are 3 parts of Argumentative Essay

1. Introduction- which includes:

a. The Hook – which refers to the strategy to get the attention of your readers and make
them finish reading your text. It must be interesting to hook your readers. It can be a
question, quotation, or definition.

b. Claim –It is the writer’s stand or overall argument

2. Body - It is the longest part of an essay. This is where you lead the reader through your
ideas, elaborating arguments and evidence for your thesis

It includes:

a. Evidence – or the reasons, facts, statistics, examples, or statements from experts,

studies, or other sources to support the claim.

b. Counterclaim – or opposing or contrary view that challenges or offsets the claim.

c. Rebuttal – or the statement of arguments that negate or disprove the counterclaim.

3. Conclusion – The last part of the essay where you summarize all the main points of
your essay with the purpose of stirring and leaving ideas, thoughts, and feelings for the
reader to think about.
