Action: Insulin lower blood glucose by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake by skeletal muscle and fat,

and by inhibiting hepatic glucose production

Indication: To improve glycemic control in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus
and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Contra: Prior hypersensitivity to insulin glargine; hypoglycemia.

Adverse effects: Upper respiratory tract infection, hypoglycemia, allergic reactions, injection site
reactions, pruritus, rash, edema, and weight gain

Nursing consi:

Check and verify doctor’s order.

Assess and monitor vital signs before and after administration.

Assess for history of hypersensitivity to the drug.

Educate patient and family about the medication and its side effects.

Follow the rights of medication. (Right Patient, Drug, Dose, Route, Time)

Assess and monitor for the therapeutic effect of the medication.

Instruct patient to often monitor the blood sugar

Do not inject into areas with redness, swelling, itching, or dimpling
