6 Motor Operators

4.6.3 Motor operator with stored energy feature SEO520

The front mounted motor operator with stored energy feature SEO520 is intended mainly
for net synchronisation tasks due to its fast switching times. Additionally, it offers an
optional communication connection, so that the molded case circuit breaker 3VA2 can also
be switched remotely via the bus systems established within the 3VA system.

4.6.3.1 Description front side

On the front side of the motor operator with stored energy feature SEO520, there is a
switching position indication and the LED „TRIP“. With the unambiguous switching
position indication, the operator SEO520 meets the requirements pertaining to isolating
features stipulated by IEC / EN 60947-1.

4.6.2.2 MANUAL, AUTO and LOCK modes

The motor operator with stored energy feature SEO520 possesses the operating modes
MANUAL (manual operation mode), AUTO (remote operation mode) and LOCK (locked).
These are chosen via a slider on the front side of the SEO.
MANUAL:

In the operation mode MANUAL (slider on the left), the SEO520 can only be operated via
the push buttons on the front side of the SEO.

AUTO:

In the operation modet AUTO (slider in the middle), the motor operator with stored energy
feature SEO520 can be operated via control cables, e.g. in response to signals issued by
a pushbutton or by control commands output by a PLC. It can also be operated via the
optional communication function.

LOCK:

In the operation mode LOCK (slider on the right, only in OFF (O) position), the SEO520
can be locked against switching on. The locking mechanism can be used with up to three
padlocks (diameter 5.0-8.0 mm). The padlocks are not included in the scope of delivery.
4.6.2.3 Opening, closing and resetting the 3VA molded case circuit breaker

Opening and Closing

In MANUAL mode, the breaker is operated via the push buttons on the front side of the
SEO520. A remote operation is not possible. Pushing the ON (I) button will close the
contacts of the molded case circuit breaker. Pushing the OFF (O) button will open them.
This is not done by tripping the breaker, but through a real switching off operation.

In AUTO mode, the molded case circuit breaker can be switched on and off via electrical
signals on the connector. Variants with communication module can be switched through
the link tot he COM060 module in the breaker. This is done in the communication
environment chosen for the molded case circuit breaker 3VA2 (e.g. Profibus, Profinet,
Ethernet (Modbus TCP)). The software powerconfig for commissioning and
parameterizing can also be used to convey on and off commands. This will also result in
an OFF-operation, and not a tripping operation. In AUTO mode, the OFF (O) push button
on the operator SEO520 can still be operated to switch off the breaker. The ON (I) push
button cannot be operated.

Resetting the molded case circuit breaker

Resetting of the molded case circuit breaker via the motor operator with stored energy
function MO520 depends on the chosen reset mode.

Reset mode options

The reset mode can be chosen. The reset mode determines the behavior in TRIP
position after the molded case circuit breaker has tripped.

Behavior of the motor operator with stored energy function SEO520 after a trip,
depending on the reset mode:
Reset mode Prerequisite Operatio Position Description

Reset mode 2: Slider in AUTO or MANUAL/ Operaton mode MANUAL: The motor operator SEO520 must
Reset via manual MANU, SEO520 is in AUTO be reset on site via push buttons (OFF (O)). In rare cases, the
operation or manual or automatic springs must be charged manually for that to be possible.
remote mode Operation mode AUTO: The motor operator SEO520 must be
operation reset via control cables (e.g. push buttons, PLC) or
communication with an OFF signal.

Reset mode 3: Slider in AUTO, AUTO When the molded case circuit breaker has tripped, the
Reset after SEO520 is in SEO520 waits for an Acknowledge signal (via electrical signal
additional automatic mode on the connector (ACK) or communication) before allowing a
acknowledge reset with an OFF signal.

Connection diagram for control of the motor operator SEO520

The SEO520 motor operator is edge-controlled, i.e. it reacts only to the positive edge of
an ON or OFF command at the relevant terminals 3 and 4. In this case, the OFF signal is
dominant, i.e. the motor operator will be switched off in response to an OFF edge even if
an ON signal is applied.

The SEO520 requires a pause period of 80 ms between the end of an OFF signal and
the edge of an ON signal. Since the OFF signal is dominant, it does not require a pause
period.

4.6.2.4 Faults, causes of faults and rectification of faults

“Device defective” is used for an error/defect in the motor operator which cannot be
cleared. The device must be exchanged. This can be caused, for example, by a defective
microswitch.

“Internal error” is used for a reversible error (e.g. non-defined switching position, error at
auto reset, too long switching times). If the motor operator cannot reset itself by a
repeated ON/OFF command, a manual correction of the switching position is necessary.
Make sure that the rotary knob for the reset mode is in a defined position (1, 2 or 3).
4.6.2.5 Communication
The motor operator with stored energy function SEO520 can be ordered in a variant that
is communication capable. The SEO520 can thus be integrated into the 3VA
communication environment and the circuit breaker can thus be switched remotely.

Signal transmission in this case is done via an SEO-COM adapter to the COM060
module in the breaker’s right accessory pocket.
4.6.2.6 Accessories
Cylinder lock (type Ronis)
The motor operator with stored energy function SEO520 can be equipped with a cylinder
lock (type Ronis) on the front side. The locking kit consists of a cylinder lock with four
available key variants, as well as the SEO specific lock insert. The cylinder lock lockst he
chosen operation mode (manual, auto, lock), so that no unauthorized change tot he
operation mode can be executed.

Operation counter
The mechanical operation counter can be mounted into the front side of the SEO and
counts the number of ON/OFF cycles starting from the moment of its mounting.
Compatibility with other accessories
If the motor operator with stored energy function SEO520 is equipped with the
communication option, the use of auxiliary switches AUX in the HP variant (3VA9988-
0AA11) in the right accessory pocket is prohibited due to requirements for creepage and
clearance distances. In communication applications, this pocket is used for the
communication module COM060, so that this restriction is only relevant in cases where
an SEO520 with communication option is used in an application without communication.
