Analysing Data

Communication Event: Discussion between 2 students who come from different


regions/areas

Gendre : Discuss directly

Topic : Language use in their respective regions

Purpose : To know the use in each regions/areas

Setting : At school, more precisely in the canteen when recess is in progress

Key : Serious, but interspersed with jokes

Participants : 3 of the discussion participants were women of the same age. The
relationship between the three of them is friendship (ordinary
conversation when hanging out together)

A : friend who from Buleleng

B : friend who from Tabanan

C : friend who from Negara

Massage Form : When all the students had their break, 3 (three) students from class 3
went to the canteen, and order some food. After eating, they chatted or
make a conversation, and the topic of the conversation was about the
use of language in their respective regions/areas

Act Sequence : The 3 (three) of the students go to the canteen.

At canteen.

A : “B, why you always end the word with a sound “o”? where are you from
actually?”
B : “ohh, iam from Tabanan, in Tabanan, in Tabanan it is like that. For example the
word “kije?” (in Bali language) the sound become /kijo/”
C : “ The language of the negara is also like that if the Buleleng language at the end of
a word always ends with a sound /e/ but in other negara language it ends with a
sound /a/”.
A & B : “really? Shows me the example !”
C : “ like for example the words “kar kija?” if the Tabanan’s people will say like
this /kar kijo?/ and the buleleng’s people will say like this /kar kije?/. But, if the
negara’s people will say like this /kar kija?/.
A&B : “wow that’s so cool”
A : “ohh, have you ever experienced the shock culture in living here? If in your place
use the smooth language”
B : “I think ya, because in my opinion, the language of Buleleng is very rude and I
think they are fighting, and in my place there are rarely people like that”
C : “I'm not too surprised, because around my house sometimes there are those who
say harshly”
After that the bell rang and all students entered their respective classrooms.
Including these 3 (three) students. They ended the conversation and returned to their
classroom to start a new lesson.

Rules for Interaction:


 The speaker number 1 is A. A is the people from the Buleleng
 The speaker number 2 is B. B is the people from Tabanan
 The speaker number 3 is C. C is the people from Negara
 The speaker number 4 is A and B
 The speaker number 5 is C
 The speaker number 6 is A and B
 The speaker number 7 is A
 The speaker number 8 is B
 And the last speaker is C
