In Hematology Section, the Afternoon shift has the highest percentage of accepted TAT
which has 78% (246 samples) of laboratory result released on time, followed by Night shift
which has 77% (168 samples) and Morning shift of 71% (207 samples).
Afternoon shift recorded the lowest percentage of delayed laboratory result (22%) (61
samples).

In Clinical Chemistry, as shown above. Afternoon shift has the highest percentage of
accepted TAT with 64% (142 samples), followed by Night shift (49%) (97 samples), and Morning
shift (40%) (246 samples).
Prolonged TAT was observed during Morning shift which exhibit the highest percentage
of (60%) (135 samples). Due to increased number of specimens received in morning shift
consisting of more than one hundred samples, for now it is difficult to lessen the number of
results with long TAT because the machine has a limited capacity of processing bulk specimen.
The performance of machine during analytical processing was to be the most common cause of
delay (batch method) followed by machine breakdown (busted lamp, maintenance, calibration,
unacceptable controls, and other related factors.) and manually encoding of result to Hospital
Information System- Bizbox and recording of result to logbook.

MISPLACED BLOOD SAMPLE/ UNPROCESSED PATIENTS BLOOD SAMPLE

A meeting with laboratory aides was conducted last February 27, 2023. The topic of the
meeting was about the incident of frequent misplaced of blood sample for serology section.
The discussion was focusing on how to prevent the blood sample from missing. Sir Miguel
Casabella come up with an idea of having another endorsement logbook for serology, this
logbook will use for recording all pending serology sample from PM shift, Night shift, Weekend,
Holidays only. All sample received for rapid testing will still process on the same shift, blood
sample for processing (@Maglumi) will be kept at Clinical Chemistry Refrigerator, the lab aide
scheduled for Am duty will be the one to deliver all the specimen to serology section, with
properly sign and acknowledge by the medical technologist assigned in serology.
To continuously improved the laboratory TAT, Laboratory Aides were instructed and
reminded to regularly check the serology specimen box to see whether there were any
available sample to deliver(@serology) as the serology department was not located in lab and
in a different area.
