How does the mass affect the gravitational
attraction between two objects? When you throw an object upward, you apply
force. What you throw up goes down because there is a

word gravity? Write it in the boxes below.
The spring scale attached to an object measures
how much force you need to use to lift the object. The
force of gravity exerted on an object is called the weight
of an object. Weight is measured in Newton. The spring
scale shows that the direction of gravity is downward. It
also shows that weight is the downward force of gravity
on an object.

It is important to realize that objects falling on

Earth must pass through air. The speed of falling objects
will be different on the earth and on the moon. If the air
is removed, the air resistance will disappear. When the
hammer and feather are dropped on earth at the same
time, the hammer will fall faster than the feather. Air
resistance acts against the feather, which slows down its
falling.
But if you drop the feather and the hammer
at the same time on the moon, the hammer and
the feather will fall at the same time.

E. Elaborate
What would happen to falling objects if the
air is removed so that air resistance disappears?
What is the unit of force?
How does gravity affect our daily activities?

1. All objects fall towards the _______ of the Earth.

2. All objects are attracted to each other because of
_______________.
3. The farther you are from Earth, the ___________
your weight.
4. The gravity between two objects decreases as the
distance between them ______________.
5. The more distant the body from Earth, the
___________ gravitational force of attraction.

G. Extent
Answer briefly.

of gravity. Why doesn’t the earth fall into the
sun?
