1 New Features

1.1 Laser Scanning Improvement

1.1.1 Laser Calibration
The laser calibration map, and the tool offset and velocity compensation information are now
stored on the laser scanner itself. This data is read into CAMIO when the laser is powered
on. CAMIO can then be used as normal to perform qualifications at the required A and B
angles.

1.1.2 Laser Profiles

A laser profile is a set of parameters used by the laser when scanning a part. These
parameters include the power, exposure time, signal threshold and several filtering options.
You can create multiple laser profiles through the Driver Configuration dialog box, and select
them using the Properties window or Laser 2D Preview window when inspecting features,
according to the material and colour properties of the part.

New Features YDA0006_G1 3

New Features

1.1.3 Laser Channels

When using a cross-scanner, it is now possible to choose to measure features using a
specific camera (or channel) on the laser, as if it were a line scanner, or measure using all
three. The Laser 2D Preview window updates according to your selection, to display a single
channel or all three.

1.1.4 Fitting Algorithm

A new detection algorithm for extracting features from a laser scan has been implemented,
with additional parameters to improve performance. Parameters can be set per feature in the
Properties window when inspecting features, or by using the Fitting Algorithm dialog box
from the Laser menu.

New Features

1.1.5 Measuring Object Features

All feature types, including object features such as hexagonal holes, welded studs and
welded nuts, now have automatic measurement routines when measuring with a laser
scanner.

New Features YDA0006_G1 5

New Features

1.1.6 Surface Options

The options for creating a series of laser scans over a surface have been simplified. You can
now choose from two options: 1) the Path option, where you can define a series of points
that are splined to create a smooth curved path for the laser to follow, with the option of
extending this path to cover an area, or 2) the Geometry option, where you can select
multiple areas of interest on the CAD model, over which CAMIO will generate a series of
scan paths to cover the selected geometry in the most efficient arrangement. Line scan paths
can be re-edited in the Model window and curve scan paths can be edited in the Properties
window.

New Features

1.2.4 Point Cloud Analysis

The new Analysis button on the Point Cloud toolbar allows you to send a CAD model and
point clouds to Focus Inspection 10.2 (if appropriate licenses are available), to perform
various point cloud analysis functions within Focus. When first creating the program, Focus
starts up an automation script which records the operations performed on the point clouds.
When re-running the DMIS program through CAMIO, the actions in the automation script are
automatically performed.

1.3 CAMIO UI
1.3.1 Icons
New look icons have been designed to update the look of CAMIO. Where there is common
functionality across Nikon Metrology software products, the same icon is now used, to allow
easier transition for users.

1.3.2 Tolerance Toolbar

Output and tolerance functionality has been moved to a new tab on the main toolbar.
Tolerances have been placed in sections according to their characteristics to make the
creation and application of tolerances easier and quicker.

1.3.3 Renamed Toolbars

The Inspect and Scan tabs on the main toolbar have been renamed to Tactile and Tactile
Scan respectively to separate out measurements performed with tactile probes from those
made with Laser scanners. The functionality in these toolbars is only available when a
sensor is selected, to ensure that only the appropriate measurement options are available for
the selected sensor type.

1.5 Window Improvements

1.5.1 Explorer Window
The functionality of the Explorer window has been simplified to show nominal/actual features,
including point clouds, and the tolerances applied to them. The list in this window is now
directly linked to the Model window, so selecting a feature in the Explorer window highlights
the corresponding feature in the Model window. Tick boxes in the Explorer window can be
used to show or hide features in the Model window and a right-click menu on the currently
selected feature(s) provides the ability to output features, delete features from the database,
apply certain tolerances, and save point clouds.

1.5.2 DRO Window

The layout of the DRO (digital read out) window has been improved. By default the DRO is
displayed at the bottom right of the model window, showing the CMM position in relation to
the co-ordinate system selected. The DRO can still be converted to a separate floating or
docked window. You can now also switch between displaying the co-ordinates in Cartesian
or Polar format.

New Features YDA0006_G1 11

New Features

1.5.3 Properties Window

The Laser Items section in the Properties window has been updated to include the laser
parameters required for measuring with a laser, including the selection of a laser profile.
Parameters for the feature extraction algorithm have been added to the Filter section. It is
also now possible to create a new tolerance directly within the Properties window, and apply
it to the selected feature(s).

1.6 Model Window Enhancements

1.6.1 Additional Functionality on the Toolbar
Extra buttons have been added to the Model Window toolbar to enhance the user
experience.

Pick Rotation Centre

One button allows you to pick a point on the model to specify a point about which the model
will orbit. The selected point is automatically moved to the centre of the window.

Display Options
The other additional buttons allow you to quickly and easily specify the display options for
items that you want to view in the window. These have been separated into functional groups
for Attributes (such as nominals, fitted points, markers), Machine (such as the probe, quill
and machine volume) and the layers that make up the CAD model. The Attributes and
Machine display options are persistent between CAMIO sessions.

1.6.2 Right-click Options

A right-click menu on the currently selected feature(s) provides the ability to output and
delete features, as well as apply certain tolerances, and save point clouds.

12 YDA0006_G1 New Features

New Features

1.6.3 Link to Explorer Window

The features displayed in the Model window are now directly linked to the Explorer window,
so selecting a feature in the Model window highlights the corresponding feature in the
Explorer window.

1.6.4 Orbiting the View

The Orbit functionality on the Model window toolbar has been extended. Move the cursor
near the model. When you click, a grey circle is displayed. To orbit the model in 3D, click
inside the circle and move the mouse. The model rotates around a selected point on the
model. The point is selected by clicking on the model or using the Pick Rotation Centre
button. To orbit the model in 2D, click outside the circle and move the mouse. The model
rotates around a point in the middle of the window.

New Features

1.7 Sensors Window

1.7.1 Probe Designer
A new Probe Designer has been developed to allow for quick and easy creation of very
simple and very complicated probes of all types currently supported in CAMIO. Custom
extensions and styli can also be created. The Probe Designer includes an integrated probe
assembly list and CAD view to visualise the probe as it is being designed, with a yellow
arrow indicating where the next component will be added to. A component library contains a
comprehensive list of components that can be added to your probe, with the list being
grouped by component type and filtered so that is only shows the components that can be
added to the component currently selected in the probe assembly list.

1.7.2 Integration of Sensor Management Functionality

All aspects of creating and calibrating sensors are now accessed through the Sensors
window and the Sensors window toolbar, including the creation of programs for locating
calibration spheres, the calibration wizard to create programs for calibrating sensors, and the
calibration of individual sensors.

1.8.2 Image Section in CAMIO Reporting

The Analysis button on the Point Cloud menu allows you to use Focus to perform various
point cloud operations. There is the option in Focus to take a screen shot displaying the
results. By creating a new Image Section these results can be added to your CAMIO report.

1.9 Dialog Upgrades

1.9.1 Curve Scanning
The procedure for scanning a GCURVE feature has been simplified. A new dialog, accessed
by selecting Curve on the Tactile Scan tab, combines the definition of the curve feature with
the generation of the scan path, reducing the steps required for this type of feature
measurement. Additionally, the scan path can be created in multiple sections, allowing for
the selection of different sensors between the scan paths if required.

New Features YDA0006_G1 17

New Features

1.9.2 Spar Wall Thickness

The process for measuring the thickness of a spar wall has been re-integrated and improved
upon. A single dialog is used to first select a plane on the model that defines the clearance
plane on the top of the spar, then allows the selection of the surface that defines one side of
the spar. A number of points are generated along the spar using a curve tool at a depth
specified in the dialog. Additional points can also be added if required. Points are
automatically generated on the opposite side of the spar by CAMIO. Point profile tolerances
and a distance with respect to tolerance are created and applied to the points, if required,
when exiting the dialog.

18 YDA0006_G1 New Features

New Features

1.9.3 Output/Evaluate Dialog Boxes

The Output and Evaluate Feature dialog boxes have been enhanced. When opened, they
display with the features currently selected in the Explorer window (or Model window) already
listed. Additional features can be added by dragging from the Explorer window or by clicking
in the Model window. Existing tolerances can be selected from a drop-down list, or new
tolerances can be created with the use of a tolerance wizard. QIS Reporting functionality is
also available. On closing the dialog, CAMIO automatically applies all tolerances to each
compatible feature, creating a series of output or evaluate commands.

1.9.4 Simultaneous Requirements

The procedure to define a block of simultaneous requirements has been simplified. A new
dialog box allows you to select the features to have tolerances applied to simultaneously,
and also gives the opportunity to specify primary, secondary and tertiary datums.

New Features YDA0006_G1 19

New Features

1.10 Run Mode in the Teach Path View

New functionality has been added to the Teach Path view. Run Mode allows certain
commands to be executed when teaching an inspection. This is especially useful when
performing on-line teach operations as it executes the commands for the selection of
different sensors, probes, GOTO moves, measurement commands and modal commands
whilst teaching single or multiple features in the Teach Path.
