Bioremediation- the use of natural organisms to break down hazardous substances into less
toxic or now-toxic substances
Phytoremediation - the use of green plants to detoxify foil and water containmed with heavy
metals or excess minerals.
Heavy amounts of organic chlorides and these contain dioxide which are cancer causing
agents
Our Oceans are driven by 5 major circular currents/ gyres. These are Created by the earth's
rotation And the resulting predominant winds. They Collect waste flowing from our rivers
and coastlines and over time anything floating within the gyre will eventually move towards
the center of the gyre.

These plastics absorb chemicals that are free-floating in the ocean, so when the fish eat the
plastics, those toxins then migrate from the plastic to the muscles or fats of the fish.
Phthalates are chemicals used to make plastic more flexible, transparent and durable. They
are toxic. If You breathe them they have hormone/endocrine disrupting properties.
1991- Germany passed packing laws forcing plastic manufacturers to be responsible for the
recycling or disposal of any packaging material they sell (green dot)
