1. RISHIKESH
A Tehsil located on the right side
of the banks of River Ganges.
Rishikesh is known to have been
established by Adi
Shankaracharya in the 9th
century AD. One can truly
immerse themselves in the
bounty of nature and the
beautiful sights that Rishikesh
has in store for the tourists.

Some of the prominent temples in


Rishikesh include Neelkantha
Mahadeva Temple,
Trimbakeshwar Temple, Bharat
Mandir, Raghunath Temple, Sri
Badrinath Temple.
One of the attractions also
include the Ashram where the
most popular English band called
“The Beatles” had stayed in
Rishikesh called “Chaurasi Kutia”,
which is also known as “Beatles
Ashram”.

Ashrams at Rishikesh are known


to provide Guided Meditation and
Yoga, Spa, conducting rituals
such as Ganga Aarti.

2. HARIDWAR
Haridwar, famous for its
spiritual relevance, positioned on
the banks of Ganges River. It
portrays Indian mores and
traditions in full effect. The place
is sanctified by the presence of
three Gods; Brahma, Vishnu and
Mahesh. Lord Vishnu is said to
have his foot-print on the stone
that is set in the upper wall of
Har-Ki-Pauri where the Holy
Ganga touches it all the times.
Some of the most famous fairs
are Kumbh Mela, Ganga Dussehra
and Somvati Amavasya Mela.

The place is sanctified by the


presence of three Gods; Brahma,
Vishnu and Mahesh. Lord Vishnu
is said to have his foot-print on

3. GANGOTRI
A small town with the temple of
Goddess Ganga at its heart. A 12-
hour drive from Rishikesh,
Gangotri is nestled among lofty
Garhwal Himalayan peaks,
glaciers and dense forests, and is
one of highest pilgrimages in
India. According to Hindu
legends, the most sacred of all
rivers, Ganges (or Ganga),
descended from heaven to earth
at Gangotri, when Lord Shiva
released the mighty river from
his locks. The origin of the river is
at Gaumukh in the Gangotri
glacier, 19 km away from
Gangotri and is accessible by
trekking.
Bhagirath Shila is believed to be
the holy rock where King
Bhagirath prayed to Lord Shiva.
Pandava Gufa, located 1.5 km
from Gangotri, is the place where
the Pandavas are believed to
have meditated and rested en
route Kailash. Pilgrims will have
to trek up to the Pandava Gufa.
These are two major locations at
Gangotri.

4. KEDARNATH
Kedarnath, one of the Char
Dhams located in the Himalayas.
Kedarnath is situated at an
astonishing height of 3584
meters above sea level near the
head of Mandakini River. The
Kedarnath temple lies amidst the
majestic snow-capped Garhwal
Himalayan ranges. According to
Mahabharata, the pandavas had
built the kedarnath temple where
they pleased lord shiva with their
penance.
The temple was revived by the
great hindu philosopher, Adi
Shankaracharya in the 8th
century CE, when he visited the
place with his four disciples. The
local dhabas, restaurants and tea
stalls serve north Indian
vegetarian food.

4. BADRINATH
Located in Kumaon Himalayas at
a height of 10,000 feet from the
headstream of the Ganges River.
Badri in the local language means
'wild berry'. It is saod that when
Lord Vishnu sat as a punishment
in the mountains, Goddess
Lakshmi disguised in the form of
a wild berry tree and provided
shade to the Lord from the sun.
The tree is known to act as a
shade for the pilgrims, sages and
saints when they had to meditate.

Situated along the banks of


Alaknanda river stands the
Badrinath Temple. The shrine of
Badri was established by Adi
Shankaracharya and the shrine
was known to be found
immersed in the river of
Alaknanda.
Other attractions of Badrinath
includes Tapt Kund, Brahma
Kapal and Neelkanth peak.
Landscape: Badrinath is known
to be set near the Neelkanth
Peak. The place consists of
mountains that look similar to
waves, ponds and water bodies
and rivers such as
River Alaknanda and River Rishi
Ganga.
