Uttarakhand, a state in India also called Devbhoomi or Land of Gods, has many temples
and welcomes religious travelers all year. One of the most popular pilgrimage sites in
Uttarakhand is the Char Dham Yatra, which includes four holy sites - Yamunotri, Gangotri,
Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These shrines are located high up in the Himalayas and are
closed for about six months each year, opening in summer (April or May) and closing in
winter (October or November).
The Char Dham Yatra is a clockwise pilgrimage starting from Yamunotri, then moving to
Gangotri, Kedarnath, and ending at Badrinath. It's recommended to complete the Yatra
in this order. Devotees can travel by road or air, and helicopter services are available.
The journey can be physically challenging, as the shrines are located in remote areas at
high altitudes. It is advisable to take necessary precautions and seek medical advice
before embarking on the journey.
The Char Dham Yatra attracts a large number of devotees every year, especially during
the peak season (May to June and September to October). It is advisable to plan and
book in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.
