ANALYSIS:
Reading
Read the following paragraph excerpted from the “Letter to Isaac McPherson, August 13, 1813”
in The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, Vol. XIII, edited by A. Lipscomb (1904).

"If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of
the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to
himself, but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of everyone, and the receiver
cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because
every other possesses the whole of it. He, who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself
without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That
ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of
man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by
nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density at any
point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement
or exclusive appropriation. Inventions then cannot, in nature, be a subject of property."

Answer the following questions.

1. What is your understanding of exclusive property?
 For me as a student exclusive property is the things that exclusive for example
like, land, building and many things for us as exclusive things. The development
of a house at intimate cost on the exclusive property of a life partner doesn’t
naturally make it intimate. The responsibility for land stays with the make to
whom it is enlisted until the worth thereof is paid. Exclusive property implies
genuine and individual property that is introduced, utilized and vital for the
activity of an absolved office, and that isn’t helper property except if the
assistant property excluded cost rises to or surpasses 85 percent of the all out
expense of the property.
2. How did Thomas Jefferson understand the principle of an "idea" as a non-exclusive
property?
 He understand the principle of an “idea” a non- exclusive property, it forces itself
into the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess. And it is not
limited to only one person organization or to one group of people or
organization.
3. Is there a possibility of an "idea" becoming exclusive?
 Yes because every idea has the possibility to become exclusive. Exclusive is most
commonly used to describe things that are limited to certain people. For
example there are people who can afford the exclusive things.
4. Do you agree with Thomas Jefferson's concept of an "idea"?

 Yes I agree because to this quote or he said that “it is the action of the thinking
power called an idea” that true because if we do an action we must be think first for
example if you buy to the mall a phone and the price is very high we must think first
before we act. The analogy has its flaws, ideas are singular. If there is anything that
nature has made “less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the
action of thinking power called “idea”. Each person possesses exclusively any idea so
long as it is unshared.
APPLICATION:
A. Answer Guide Questions
1. What is the importance of the Data Privacy Act of 2012?
 protects the privacy of individuals while ensuring free flow of information to
promote innovation and growth.
2. How do you protect data privacy?
 The most secure way to protect data is by encrypting it at all times. Encrypting the
data makes it useless to any unauthorized users who cannot decrypt the data. At a
minimum, data should always be encrypted when being transmitted over public
networks like the Internet. More effective protection can be achieved by encrypting
data whenever it is in transit and when it is at rest and resident on a storage device.
3. How are privacy and data protection related to each other? B. Identify a game you are
familiar with and have played frequently online or on your mobile phone. Explain briefly
the mechanics of the game and the reasons why you like playing this game List the game
items that players often buy to either improve their gaming skills or upgrade their
avatars. Identify the items that need virtual money and those that require real money.
Explain the advantages and disadvantages of having your "experience goods."
 Data privacy defines who has access to data, while data protection provides tools
and policies to actually restrict access to the data.
