A. Give your best explanation for how the Fibonacci numbers are exhibited in the
breeding patterns of rabbits.
- Suppose a newly-born pair of rabbits, one male, one female, are put in a
field. Rabbits are able to mate at the age of one month so that at the end of
its second month a female can produce another pair of rabbits. Suppose that
our rabbits never die and that the female always produces one new pair (one
male, one female) every month from the second month on. The puzzle that
Fibonacci posed was: At the end of the first month, they mate, but there is
still one only 1 pair. At the end of the second month the female produces a
new pair, so now there are 2 pairs of rabbits in the field. At the end of the
third month, the original female produces a second pair, making 3 pairs in all
in the field. At the end of the fourth month, the original female has produced
yet another new pair, the female born two months ago produces her first pair
also, making 5 pairs.
B. Draw a diagram of your own version that shows the breeding patterns of rabbits.

Tip: Re-watch the video as many times as necessary. Turn the captions on to have
subtitles if you are having problems keeping up with the dialogue.
SEATWORK 5.2
● Break down each number into the sum of Fibonacci numbers without repetition.
● Show complete subtraction solution technique.
a. 343= 233 + 89 + 21
b. 2345= 1597 + 610 + 89 + 34 + 13 + 2
c. 9370= 6765 + 2584 + 21
d. 18000= 17711 + 233 + 55 + 1

1. Watch this: https://youtu.be/SjSHVDfXHQ4 Among the things discussed in the
video, name one that fascinated you the most and why?
- A man who's happy within himself, someone who doesn't need constant attention, someone who
can go on a day without talking on the phone thrice, someone who won't lose his mind the one
time she goes out partying with her best friends and gets drunk, someone who has a life beyond
the relationship is what women desire.

2. The quote from Euclid on one of the opening slides: “The laws of nature are
but the mathematical thoughts of God.” After going through most of this
lecture presentation, give your best interpretation of what Euclid meant by it.
- "The laws of nature are but the mathematical thoughts of God." This is a well known quote
said by Euclid, which is famous in the mathematical world. Euclid stated that Geometry
wasn't just about math. He discovered that geo and metric had a different meaning, geo
means "world" and metric means "measurement." After figuring out the real meaning of
geometry Euclid has contributed so much to the math field that we use today.

3. Who is Euclid? Give at least one of his contributions to mathematics.

- Euclid was an ancient Greek mathematician active as a geometer and logician. Considered the
"father of geometry", he is chiefly known for the Elements treatise, which established the
foundations of geometry that largely dominated the field until the early 19th century. Euclid's most
famous work is his treatise on mathematics The Elements. The book was a compilation of
knowledge that became the centre of mathematical teaching for 2000 years. Probably no results
in The Elements were first proved by Euclid but the organization of the material and its exposition
are certainly due to him.
