PROJECT SCHEDULING
PROJECT

a unique product, service, or result
( Project Management Institute (PMI 2008) )
• must have a starting point and an ending
point, and it must have a deliverable
product or service that is unique
Examples of a project include , but not limited to:
• Developing a new product or service
• Effecting a change in the structure , staffing or
style of an organization
• Developing or acquiring a new or modified
information system
• Construction a building or infrastructure
• Implementing a new business process or

information system

Scheduling is the determination of the timing and
sequence of operations in the project and their assembly
to give the overall completion time
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a deliverable –
oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be
executed by the project team to accomplish the project
objectives and create the required deliverable wit each
descending level of the WBS representing an
increasingly detailed definition of the project work.
Outline View
The outline view presents an
easy to view and understand
layout for the WBS. It is also
a good layout to use when
developing the WBS
because you can easily
make changes
Hierarchical Structure
The hierarchal structure is similar to the
outline view but without indentation.
Tabular View
The Tabular View is a nicely organized
table view of the WBS. It is a good option
for organizations which prefer table
formats.
Tree Structure View the most
popular format for the Work Breakdown
Structure. It presents an easy to
understand view into the WBS;
however, it is also tricky to create
without an application specifically
designed for creating this organizational
chart structure.
Example:
Activity No. 1 : 1. Create a work breakdown structure of the project:
Bar (Gantt) Chart
• A bar chart is ‘‘a graphic representation of project activities, shown in a time-
scaled bar line with no links shown between activities’’
• Gantt charts may be created using project management information system
(PMIS) applications, such as Primavera Project Planner and Microsoft Project
