The passage is for questions 31-34.
Seahorses
Seahorses have a skeleton, fins, and gills just like a fish. However, they
don’t have scales, and their body is covered with bony plates of ‘armor’. Because
of the heavy ‘armor’, seahorses feel hard to swim and spend most of their time
resting among the sea plants. They anchor themselves to plants with their
prehensile tail. With their long snout, seahorses suck microscopic sea creatures
as their food.
Camouflage is a special ability of seahorses. Their colors are going to be
changed according to the sea plants they sit on. It can be red, yellow, grey, black,
browns, or white. They change their color very quickly, which makes the
enemies, such as crabs and birds, difficult to see them.
The strangest thing about seahorses is that males give birth. The males
have pouch under their belly into which the females will place around 150 to 200
eggs. After that, the male seahorses will fertilize the eggs. They will protect the
babies until they become fully-formed seahorses. Baby seahorses must look after
themselves as soon as they are born.
Seahorses are endangered inn many parts of the world. Pollution destroys
their habitat in some Asian countries. They are also used as medicine and many
people in North America keep them as a pet in aquariums. Todays, there are
seahorse ‘farms’ that provide seahorses for aquariums.
